In fact, i've whiled away the better part of this afternoon cyber-walking down Kinnaird Street and Brown Place (though it's "Brown's" in my gr-grannie's birth record). 3. i do know that the women's counterpart to the Masons is the "Order of the Eastern Star". At that time, it would have been a Protestant membership of women who were related to Masons. My great-grannie (who came from Pulteneytown to Canada in 1920) always said that she was related to a "grand" Mason of some sort. However, i don't know what groups in particular were going at the turn of the century. 3. Hello everyone: Mum told me that her dad, Alex DUCHART 1867-1918, belonged to the Masons, Rifle Rangers, Fisherman's Union and other organizations in Wick. Most likely other men in the family did as well. Do these organizations still exist? Do they keep records? If so, can I access those records? Now, what about the ladies in the family? What organizations might they have belonged to between 1800 and 1920? Thanks for your thoughts. Helen Turner Charleston L., Ont., Canada

    2. I checked the 1851 census for Thurso and found no appropriate person although there are Begg's in Thurso. Checked the 1881 census and there are several possibilities but it would require some work to narrow it down. 2. Susan Gandy
    3. Hello from a new Lister. I am looking for descendants of James Begg, possible from Thurso (which I think is in or near Caithness) born around 1838. James had a son William Beg born 1860 (died 1939) in Caithness who married Barbara Taylor (she died in Castletown in 1933). They had a son William who emigrated to New Zealand around 1920. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Susan Gandy in the beautiful Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, NSW Australia

    3. I had been doing research on the famiy Malcom II who was the King of the Scots. now I had his daughter married to Sigurd Digi HLODVIRSSON. But someone from the GEN-MEDIEVAL list told me they believe she was a different Malcolm's daughter Malcolm of Caithness. Any idea who this person maybe. Malcolm MacKenneth was killed in 1034, by his men. He supposedly had three daughters Bethoc, who married my ancestor Crinan MacDuncan, and one that married MacBeth McFindleach's father, and the youngest who married Sigurd Digi HLODVIRSSON. A couple of people on that list told me not to trust the Orkneyinga Saga nor History of The Kings of Norway because they were written many centuries after the events. Any idea where I can find good sources. Le
