Hi, I have noticed there have been a few postings about McHattie. I don't know if there is a connection but there were 3 M(a)cHattie brothers who emigrated to Nova Scotia in the late 1700's. I don't have all the dates but Alexander was born abt 1757 in Scotland. Possibly Banffshire or possibly "lowland"?. He was married to Catherine Macdonald and I think her father was Joseph (?). They settled in Pictou County for quite a number of years and then moved to Guysborough County. They had a large family and the decendents are scattered across North America. One went to Antigua and when he died, his wife took the children to be educated in England. One of the decendents went to Australia. I understand there is a Lake McHattie. This person, whoever he was, supposedly named it after his father. (I read this in a book at the library today.) Anyway, for some reason, this Alexander McHattie, dropped the Mc and that is how most of his decendents are known, however, some revereted back to Mc or Mac. The other 2 brothers were William and George. Hope this is of some help. If you want more details, I will see what I can find. Cheryl MacIntosh Pictou County Nova Scotia
