Please check out the following website: http://www.rootsweb.com/~vermont/WashCoTownBarre2.html A person is posting the Gazateer & Business Directory of Washington County, Vermont 1783-1899, compiled and published by Hamilton Child, 1889. Within the latest post there is information on several granite shops and quarries that were started by people from Scotland: Jones Brothers; Wells Lamson (quarries & granite works); Marr & Gordon (it mentions a hoisting machine that they brought from Aberdeen); Vermont Granite Works; Forsyth & Ingram; Donald McLeod (Aberdeen); McDonald & Buchan; Hobbs & McDonald; Alexander Grant & Company (Alvah, Banffshire); Fraser & Cassie; Littlejohn & Barclay (Mr. Barclay was from Fraserburg); Miln & Conan; Milne & Wyllie; James Cordiner's Granite Shop; E.A. Wilkinson Granite Works; Emslie & Coburn Granite Works; A. H. Gamble Granite Works; P. O. Wheaton Granite Quarry and others. For those of you who are new to the list I also posted (last year) the 1905 Barre City and Barre Town Directory which lists many Scots who were living in the area - mostly from Aberdeen. If you go to the site's main page and look through her site - you will find it - it is posted alphabetically under Barre City and Barre Town Directory, 1905.
