Hello Listers, Cross-posted to ANESFHS, Aberdeen-Rootsweb & Banffshire-Rootsweb Was the family of John WATT and Isobel NAPIER, with 4 children (maybe more) 1809-1816 in Glass -- the same family as John WATT and Isobel TAYLOR, with 7 children 1820-1834 in Cabrach? Or was it the same John WATT with a 2nd wife, also named Isobel? Or two completely separate John WATT families? The reason Im asking: Ive made a connection (as usual not a direct connection but through a series of marriages), to the family of James WATT (b 1812 Glass), who married Ann GLENNIE (b 1816 Kinnethmont, daughter of William GLENNIE and Ann BOOTH of Matnach, Clatt). (William 1781-1855 and Ann 1781-1865 were both born in Clatt; however, they resided in Kinnethmont until about 1831 when they returned to Clatt. Further, William GLENNIE had ties to Towie as his sister Mary was born/christened there in 1777.) For James WATT, on the 1851 Kinnethmont Census: Piece: SCT1851/212 Place: Kinnethmont-Aberdeenshire Enumeration District: 3 Civil Parish: Kinnethmont Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: - Folio: 159 Page: 1 Schedule: 3 Address: Craigtown Surname First name(s) Rel Status Sex Age Occupation Where Born Remarks WATT James Head M M 39 Journeyman Shoemaker Aberdeenshire - Glass (Originally: Banffshire - Glass) WATT Anne Wife M F 33 Aberdeenshire - Kinnethmont WATT Agnes Dau - F 4 Aberdeenshire - Rhynie WATT John Son - M 2 Aberdeenshire - Kinnethmont WATT Lawrence Brothr U M 34 Journeyman Shoemaker Aberdeenshire - Glass (Originally: Banffshire - Glass) WATT William Brothr U M 30 Journeyman Carpenter Aberdeenshire - Cabrach (Originally: Banffshire - Cabrach) LDS IGI is showing James & Lawrence birth/christening records at Glass with parents as John WATT and Isobel NAPIER/NEPER, but the only likely William WATT at Cabrach that I can come up with is son of John WATT and Isobel TAYLOR. I am inclined to think TAYLOR may be a loose translation/variant for NAPIER? From Ancestry.com in its Name History & Origin section: Scottish: occupational name for a producer or seller of table linen or for a naperer, the servant in charge of the linen in use in a great house, Middle English, Old French nap(p)ier, an agent derivative of Old French nappe table cloth (Latin mappa). I tried searching scotlandspeople for a death record for James but didnt find one likely so didnt view any of the records. Also didnt find a likely death record for Ann (still living in 1855 according to her fathers death record). Nor did I find James or Ann, or daughter Agnes b1847 Rhynie or son John b 1850 Kinnethmont, as well as James brothers Lawrence and William on the 1881 Scotland census cds. Makes me wonder if the entire James WATT family emigrated out of Scotland? Any help deciphering or distinguishing between the two John WATT family groups and/or more info on the family of James WATT and Ann GLENNIE is greatly appreciated.
