Hi there, I am interested in tracing family history of James Christie ( solicitor and deputy Sheriff of Banff) who married Anne Milne in 1829. I know nothing of their parents and would appreciate suggestions on how to go back a bit further. We know that up until recently there have been some direct descendants living in the Banff area but I think they may now all be deceased. The 1841 census indicates James and Anne had 5 children: John b 1823, William b 1830, Mary b 1832, George b 1834 and Jean b 1840. I am a descendent through William who was my gtgt grandfather and married (1859) Veronica Cleugh Gillies b 1829 d 1882. The Gillies family would be another area I would like to know more about. We know nothing of what happened to the other children except John married and had 3 children Eleanor (who in 1890 married Svein Bjornsson and later became vice regent of Iceland), John and Mary Anne. Any information about the descendents of these people would be of great interest. There is speculation there could have been an former wife as James was about 25 years more senior than Anne but we have no definitive evidence for this speculation. I am not sure where to look to check this hypothesis. Again, any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks in advance Bruce Christie New Zealand
