The place names in the parish registers and hence in the IGI are parishes, not towns, villages etc. Many parishes, like Grange, are rural areas with no settlement of the same name, and parishes are not marked on modern maps, so the parish names tend to get lost. Other examples are Botriphnie (look for Drummuir on a map) Marnoch (Bridge of Marnoch or Aberchirder) Gamrie (Macduff) or better still, see the parish list at http://www.abdnet.co.uk/genuki/BAN/ HTH Anne
