There appear, at various times, to have been schools at Cowfurrach (SPCK), Craiglug ('a dame school'), at Smerick Cottage (also a 'dame school'), Slackhead (Free Church, but apparently RC children also attended), Arradoul (supported by the 'big hoose' at Cairnfield), Shielburn, Clochan, and Portgordon. The author occsionally refers to school logs, but only for those schools which operated after 1870. Gavin Bell
