She is Bella Jane Killoh born in 1907. She married William McRobb in 1932. Her father was Douglas Killoh. If anyone has any information that would help me get under way on this line I would be grateful. Vince Freeman

As she was born less than 100 years ago you won't be able to get her birth certificate online; and as she was married less than 75 years ago, her marriage certificate won't be online either. You can get both of them either by sending to Scotland's People (SP), or by getting a someone to transcribe them for you. See www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk for details of what to do. If you would prefer to get a professional searcher to transcribe them http://www.asgra.co.uk/ has a list of people. However with a name as unusual as Douglas Killoh, it should be possible to get her parents' marriage certificate online at SP. I see that a Douglas Killoh married a Bella Fenton in New Byth, Aberdeenshire, in 1902. I don't have enough credits to download the certificate, but you could buy some and do so yourself. The index also says that Douglass M Killoh was born in Alvah, Banffshire in 1881. This is the only one in the entire index, BTW. Alvah is the next parish south from Banff, which is next door to Gamrie Douglas isn't in he 1881 census, which lists just one family by this name in Alvah: Dwelling: Pole Of Itlaw Census Place: Alvah, Banff, Scotland Source: FHL Film 0203436 GRO Ref Volume 146 EnumDist 3 Page 1 Marr Age Sex Birthplace Charles KILOH M 30 M Gamrie, Banff, Scotland Rel: Head Occ: Ag Lab Jane KILOH M 30 F Alvah, Banff, Scotland Rel: Wife Occ: Ag Labs Wife Jane KILOH 6 F Alvah, Banff, Scotland Rel: Daur Occ: Scholar Mary KILOH 6 F Alvah, Banff, Scotland Rel: Daur Occ: Scholar John KILOH 4 M Alvah, Banff, Scotland Rel: Son Ruth KILOH 2 F Alvah, Banff, Scotland Rel: Daur Annie KILOH 1 F Alvah, Banff, Scotland Rel: Daur so it looks as if your Douglas must have been born after the census was taken in 1881. The IGI at www.familysearch.org tells me that Charles Killoch (note spelling) and Jane Sievewright were married on 14 December 1872 in Alvah, and that they had at least three children: William, born 9 October 1873 in Forglen, and twins Jane and Mary, born 11 October 1874 in Alvah. The IGI stops at 1874 so the younger children are not listed. The surname is spelled Killoh (no 'c') in the children's birth certificates. It looks as if William may have died young. The index at SP tells me that a William Killoh, aged under 1 year, died in Forglen in 1873. Forglen is another parish a little further south than Alvah. I have to stress that all this information is from secondary sources, like indexes and the census transcription. You need to go to SP and download the original certificates to be sure that I am right. The marriage certificates, BTW, will tell you the full names of the parents of all the couples. Now, looking further back. The IGI tells me that Charles Killoch, son of William Killoch and Jane Duncan (married 11 December 1830 in Gamrie, was born on 29 October 1850 in Gamrie. This couple had at least six children; the others were all born in Gamrie: George, 25 May 1831 James, 14 August 1833 Jane, 6 May 1835 John, 14 September 1837 Barbara, 3 May 1843 This looks like the family in the 1841 census at http://freecen.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl (note yet another spelling variant) Piece: SCT1841/155 Place: Gamrie-Banffshire Enumeration District: 1 Civil Parish: Gamrie Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: - Folio: 1 Page: 1 Address: Cushnie Surname First name(s) Sex Age Occupation Where Born Remarks KILLAH William M 35 Ag Labour Banffshire KILLAH Jean F 30 Outside Census County (1841) KILLAH James M 7 Banffshire KILLAH Jean F 6 Banffshire KILLAH John M 3 Banffshire KILLAH Robert M 1 Banffshire I hope that this has given you something to go on. I cannot stress too much that you need to check all this against the original documents to be sure that it's all correct. Best wishes Anne
