    3. I wonder if this might be William Duncan who married Jane Grant, 26 May 1847, Botriphnie, according to the IGI. LIBINDX (Ref. No. NM048569) has a William Duncan, son of Alexander Duncan and Janet Wilson. He was born 10 March 1807, died 1 May 1874, buried Botriphnie (Headstone ref. BT78). According to LIBINDX, he lived and worked at Mains of Bellyhack (which was part of the Drummuir estate), and was the father of William, Janet and Alexander Duncan. In "The McWillie Diaries" (the Diary of George McWillie, a Botriphnie farmer), now posted to the Web at http://www.botriphnie.org.uk/mcwillie_diary.htm, there is an entry, October 1842, as follows: "Alex. Duncan, Mains Bellyhack, died the 13th, aged 75." On the same web site (http://www.botriphnie.org.uk/admissions.htm) are several lists of 19th century school admissions which contain a number of references to Duncans of Bellyhack. As far as I can tell at present, these Duncans are not related to my line, but perhaps this info might help someone else. In general, the "botriphnie.org." site is absolutely invaluable to anybody with Botriphnie/Drummuir connections. 3. Further to my previous, I just noticed that LIBINDX also has an entry (Ref. No. NM039204) for Alexander Duncan, farmer, Mains of Bellyhack, born about 1767, died 13 October 1842, aged 75, buried Botriphnie (headstone ref. no. Bt77), spouse Jannet Wilson. Bill Ramp

    3. Yes Bill - it was the Bellyhack Duncans (I now recall that was the farm name). The descendant, John Milne of Dunedin, New Zealand, also had in his possession a sampler worked by Jane Grant c1834 I think. And thanks for the link to www.botriphnie.org - what a great local website!
