Hi Judy, Susan et al Doesn't seem to be an obvious connection, but who knows with all the names up there! My Isabella WALKER (born c1828) was a dressmaker in Forres and married John GRANT(b1828), shoemaker, in Forres in Feb 1876. She was his second wife, but by the time they were married, they already had two sons together, she had two sons from two other men and he had 8 children from his first marriage. No wonder he needed a new wife! His first wife, Isabella DAVIDSON, died in January 1870 when their youngest, Robert, was only a month old. Family is as follows: 1. John GRANT m. Janet STUART 17 Feb 1825, Inveravon, Banff Children (all born in Inveravon) William 17 Dec 1825 James 11 Mar 1827 2. John 6 Oct 1828 (my gr gr grandfather) Elspeth 8 June 1830 Jane 4 June 1832 Alexander 30 March 1834 Robert 8 April 1836 Anne 30 June 1837 Mary 31 May 1839 *George 15 April 1841 2. John GRANT (b1828) m. Isabella DAVIDSON (c1826 - 1870) 12 June 1856 in Inverness Children (all born in Forres) Alexander 13 June 1856 Jessie 26 Sept 1857 John 4 Sept 1859 William 23 July 1861 Isabella 30 Sept 1863 Mary Jane 15 July 1865 James 10 Nov 1867 Robert 23 Dec 1869 2. John Walker GRANT (b1873) m. Mary Agnes MORRISON (b1872) in Glasgow 6 children all born in Glasgow #Isabella WALKER (b circa 1828 in Alves, Elgin) was born to Alexander WALKER and ^Margaret FIMISTER (b1804) and she had at least one sibling, Alexander, born 1844. ^Margaret FIMISTER (b 13 Sept 1804) was born in Kinloss, to Alexander FIMISTER and Margaret SMITH. She was one of at least five children, all born in Kinloss. They were John b 1796 Alexander b 1797 Elizabeth b 1800 Margaret b 1804 (as above) William b 1806 I also have some information on *George GRANT (b.1841) who married Mary MCDONALD (b1840) in Edinburgh in 1865 and then had 5 children (that I know of) and moved around in Lanarkshire and ended up in Paisley. I believe when he was in Paisley, he may have been a baker? and had at least one GRANT nephew from Forres living with him. I would love to hear from anyone with connections to any branch of these families. I am also looking for more information about my gr grandfather's two half brothers through Isabella Walker. I will post their names separately when I have more... My gggrand uncle, JOHN STUART, was born in 1783 in Speymouth according to grant applications filed in New Brunswick in 1814. JOHN STUART, who never married, was joined in 1816 in New Brunswick by his 10-year old nephew, his brother's son, CHARLES STUART (my gggrandfather). JOHN STUART's unmarried sister, MAY, also lived with them in Canada. In his obituary, CHARLES STUART was listed as having been born in "Sutherland Shire, Scotland" in 1806. Other family names include Alexander, Mary, Margaret. I join in on your thanks to the fascinating people on this list who I enjoy learning from! Susan in California >
Hi All, Anyone know if any of the above GRANT's ended up in NZ? I have a GRANT, a REID and a GEORGE coming to NZ in the 1870's. Know it was James Stewart GEORGE but do not have the first names of the other two. James GEORGE was a Rothiemay man. Regards, Stew WATSON King Country, New Zealand
