I am like you, i.e. I have not fully confirmed the information yet - but it looks like a 90% certainty that the Wm Hardie and Eliz Smout are indeed my partner's GGG Grandparents. Their daughter Margaret married William Brown, they had a son, Alexander, which led in turn to another 3 generations of Alexander Browns, the last of those being my partner!
