    1. BANFF STREET NAME
    2. I was trawling through 1841 Freecen names in Banff yesterday and came across people living at 'Painted Effie', 'house next to Painted Effie' and 'Painted Effie Road'. I search of early town plans shows no such road. It appears to have been near a toll house on Boyndie Street. Anyone any ideas? In any case, what was a Painted Effie? Elizabeth Gabriel

    3. Hi Elizabeth, If you go to http://www.old-maps.co.uk/ and type in Banff then enlarge the view you can see Paintedeffie (as it's written) beside Seatown. Typing Painted Effie in the search did not bring it up. Also, a google search found Painted Effie mentioned at http://www.ivargault.com/slekt/descendants_gault.html see George Gault. Hope this helps Elaine >I was trawling through 1841 Freecen names in Banff yesterday and came >across >people living at 'Painted Effie', 'house next to Painted Effie' and >'Painted >Effie Road'.
