Mary Ann was born on 2 November 1874. If you go to www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk (SP) you can download an image of the marriage certificate which will tell you the names of Alexander's and Mary's parents. I think that Mary is probably the daughter, born in Forglen on 18 February 1855, of Alexander Findlater and Mary Ann Stewart. If so, you are in luck, because 1855 birth certificates (also from SP) contain information not included on any other certificates before or since. If I am right, you will find a tree showing her ancestors back to the 17th century at http://www.genealogy.com/users/f/i/n/Alex-Findlater/ - yours are in the Banff Branch. Here's one that may be relevant: 171) This stone was erected by order of the Right Honourable James, Earl of Fife, in memory of Alexander Imlach, John Strachan, William Murgauch, and William Cruickshank, four of his Lordship's gardeners, who lost their lives attempting to cross the River Dovern in a small boat at the King's Foord when the river was greatly swell'd by rain upon the 14th of June, 1768. And of Alexander Andrew, who in going home to the farm of Corskie in a dark night missed his way, and lost his life in the Gellyburn upon the 2nd of December, 1774 . Elizabeth Gabriel
