A quick look up, had Mary Dick, who had a child named William SIMPSON, Baptised in 1785, no Father mentioned. Then Mary Dick, dau. of William Dick & his wife Mary Herd bn 1812. Then there was a Mary Dick in the early 1900's & myself, 1935. As far as I know none of those ( certainly not myself, marr. a McKay / Mackay. However, McKay / MACKAY does show up in the family, in 1812, when Robert Mckay / Mackay married Ann Thomson, in Cuminestown, Monquhitter. I suspect that his Father was James McKay, but, no Archibald, as far as I have seen at this time. Do let me know the time span that you are looking at.

I looked on the inscriptions for the gravestones in Botriphnie for my family, but it looks as if they must be in a later cemetry, perhaps that one was full by the time they died. They were in Botriphnie in 1841,1851 and possibly before and after that, but they seem to have lived in Inveravon from 1730 or before until they went to Botriphnie and after about 1860 some of them moved to Edinburgh. I just can't seem to find them on any of the information I have looked at in the area apart from the parish registers for a couple of the births and marriages. If I find any of your names I will let you know, I expect you have already looked at the inscriptions on the gravestones. The name Raich was there I think, but I'm not sure about the others. I will keep looking and if I find anything I will let you know, what have you got so far? I have George Stephen b. 1743 Inv, son of John Stephen and Isabel Kernuch alias Grant no dates for them. George married Ann McRobie b. 1737 Inv. daughter of John McRobie no date. They married in 1766 Inveravon. Their sons were John 1768 and James William 1770 both Inver. John married Ann Garrow b. 1774 Mortlach. they married in 1793 in Inver. George 1794, William 1796, Elspeth 1798, all Inver. John 1801 Mortlach, Charles 1803, Alexander 1805, Mary 1811 all Inver. These were mostly all living in Botriphnie in 1841. John 1801 married Margaret Finlay b. 1805 Angus, Forfar, they married in 1825 in Grange. They had two sons William b. 1826 in Grange and Alexander b. 1838 in Huntley Aberdeen. He was my gg grandfather, he married Ellen Elliot Macdonald Caird in Edinburgh in 1865. Ellen was the daughter of John Caird and Eliza Burnet. If anyone recognises any of these I would be grateful. Christine Grover nee Stephen.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ReC.2ACI/324.358.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Sue. Thanks for the kind offer. Since posting my message, I purchased the 1871 census of my great grandmother - Jane Smith. On the 1881 census she was listed with 4 sons - James Shepherd, John Lobban Shepherd, George Shepherd and Alexander Smith Shepherd, but no father of the children living with her. I had hoped I would find him living with her on the 1871 census, but no luck. On 1871 census she resided at #39 ? Street, Huntley with James (age 2) and another unexpected son William Cruickshank (age 4.) But even more interesting, at #41 was the family of a John Lobban, wife Margaret and 4 sons James, George, John and Alexander. My belief is that this family were a great assistance to Jane and her 2 sons and consequently she gave her 4 boys the names of the Lobban's 4 boys. I have now traced Jane's parents and grandparents without encountering the Lobban name, so their is possibly no family connection. I guess it is possible that a sibling of her parents could hav! e married a Lobban. I have not traced other children of her parents - John Smith and Jean Anderson. But, for the time being I am satisfied to know how the Lobban name fit within my family tree. ______________________________Date: 14 May 2006 13:24:38 -0600 From: rickduff@wowway.com To: SCT-BANFFSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: Duffs in Glass This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. He was married to Isabel Innes of Culgvoich.
