But the only thing I know is based on his death certificate. His father was John Ogilvie and his mother Catherine. Since James was born in 1773, his father would have been born before 1750, probably too late for your relation. Keep on looking, though, we may be related prior to that!

They were Inn keepers and shepards at the Grouse Inn and Nether Ardwell, from abt 1854 to abt 1870. Elspet Kellas was born May 8, 1801, Blairfindy, Glenlivet and died May 8, 1858, Nether Ardwell. William Stuart was born June 1810, Refriesh, Glenlivet, and died July 22, 1903, aged 93 at Hillock of Echt. William's parents were John Stuart and Elizabeth Mitchell, Refriesh. John Stuart was born at Tomnalienan abt. 1776. My great-grandfather was also William Gordon Stuart, (Twin to Jane Stuart, who was married to David Scott, Hillock of Echt). This William and Jane were born July 23, 1835, Glenlivet. William Gordon Stuart was married to Sarah Anne Miller (they met in England, while William was stationed there in the military) William and Sarah had a large family and they moved in 1887, into Tininver House, Dufftown. Would you know about this part of the family that ended up living in Cabrach? Thank you and looking forward to hearing from you. Kind regards, Pamela Stuart

    3. Looking for details of the family and parentage of James SCOT who married Elspet TAYLOR 19 MAY 1782 Grange, Banff (IGI: M111562). I'm trying to establish the identity of Margaret SCOTT (married) who died age 84 on 17-Dec-1856 at Aultmore, Deskford. Her parents were recorded as William CLARK and Ann CLARK ms SIMPSON. I think she is the Margaret CLARK who married Alexander SCOTT in 1798 (marriage recorded in Grange and Rathven OPRs). It is possible that this Alexander SCOTT and James SCOT are brothers, also that James SCOT was the one who turns up at Craibstone, Deskford in 1851 age 93 (with a grandaughter Ann SUTHERLAND ms SCOTT and family). 3. > would be grateful if SKS could find info on ALEXANDER > BREMNER HENRY b 1864 and his father of the same name. Henry > junior married a Mary Jane Gauld in Keith in 1886. Assuming that you have his marriage certificate, you need to tell us his mother's name. This would help to find more information about him. The IGI doesn't list the birth of an Alexander Hen(d)ry with that middle name between 1862 and 1866, so you will need his mother's name to make any progress. If you don't already have the marriage certificate, go to www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk where you can download an image of it. Then tell us his mother's name and we will see what we can do. HTH Anne

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ReC.2ACI/2789.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Alan, Since posting on the message board, I've gotten a response from a woman who does freelance work at Register office in Edinburgh. She was able to find a marriage for "Sandy" which gave his residence as 12 Castle Street, Aberdeen. His marriage to Elizabeth Ann Main (of Nairn) took place in Aberdeen in 1925. I wrote a letter to a newspaper in Scotland called the 'Northern Scot' and received an email from Ernest Cumming's wife, Ivy. She told me that their family had never been told about "Sandy", so I assume that William Brodie Cumming and his son ("Sandy") didn't stay in touch at all. Ivy was very surprised to hear about "Sandy" and is now very intrigued to find out more information if she can. "Sandy" would have been her husband's half-brother, one he never knew existed! I'm not sure where "Sandy" and his wife, Elizabeth went after they were married. The woman at the Register office searched death records up until the present day and could not find a death record for "Sandy" or his wife, and I doubt that he's still living at the age of 104! I assume that he may have gone to England or Australia or even the U.S. or Canada. I'm not sure where to go next with my search since no one seems to know anything about him and I don't know which country he may have moved to. My family is wondering why William Brodie Cumming wouldn't have married my great-grandmother, Christina when she got pregnant with "Sandy". Although, this seems to be a common occurence with my paternal ancesters. Each one of my great-grandfather's (Alexander Walker Barron) sister's had at least one illegitimate child, and I don't think any of them married the fathers of these children. I'm assuming that Ivy (wife or Ernest Cumming) would also be in touch with her in-laws, Kathleen and Jock and have asked them about "Sandy". If not, do have contact information for them? Thanks for your help. Maggie Barron

He was a blacksmith who lived in the village of Fordyce, where I was born and brought up. I do not remember him, but know many of his family. William Brodie Cumming died in 1943 aged 69 years and his wife Mary MlLean died in 1981. The lived at the Burnside Smithy. Some of William Brodie and Mary's family are dead but there daughter Kathleen, and sons Ernest and Jock still live in the North East of Scotland. My parents know them all well. If you want their details to be put in touch with them I'd be happy to provide you with their details.

John was a Shoemaker, which is all I know about him. Probably he had always been in that area. No names that you mention seem to show. Perhaps if yours had a link to Ireland, they may have settled on the west Coast, being closer to Ireland. Somewhere I read that some Ulster Scots could , on some tides, sail across to the Scottish coast, attend Church, & sail back on the turn of the Tide. Very daring !!
