They moved to Ontario where Margachs also were at the same time, and spread to BC, AL, and SK from there. I have managed to place almost all Canadian Margachs in one family, and nearly all Scottish ones in another, and have even tied the AUS ones in via Grant family - I believe they are all of the same family... I have Margachs from 1717 SCT forward to Ontario...but have been unable to place William...any ideas? Pat

Surnames: Rennie, Rannie, Pirie, Geddes Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ReC.2ACI/2461.1 Message Board Post: I know of a George RENNIE born abt 1856 in Alvah. He married Jane PIRIE (dau of Alexander PIRIE and Janet GEDDES) sometime between 1891 and 1901 - although I haven't been able to find their marriage at the GRO so I don't know his parentage. In 1901 the couple were in Banff, both aged 45, she with an illeg daughter Rose Grant Pirie, so I doubt very much the couple had children. This might have been his second marriage. This George RENNIE looks as though he is George RANNIE born 28-9-1855 Alvah to George RANNIE and Jessie MORRISON (per IGI). The IGI has three other records of his birth, two mentioning another father (!), but all three have the place as Kittyknock, Alvah. Alexander PIRIE and Janet GEDDES (from Boyne, Boyndie) seem to have disappeared off the face of the earth after 1857 so maybe they too emigrated. Any help? Regards Howard Geddes

Your post: John & Elsie (Elspet)CAMPBELL HOSSACK were confectioners in Banff from 1840's on; their children married into FORBES, ADAMSON, GREY & CRUICKSHANK families in the 1870's. Some moved on to Elgin. Two questions-- anyone else searching these lines? > Yes, Judith, I am searching these lines also. And-- Elsie died in Inverness in 1909-- trying to trace her movements there or if any other family were there also. > My sister might have some information on Elsie. I will advise asap. If you changed the name "John" for "James", you'd have my great grandfather. My grandfather was Alexander Stephen Hossack m. Elizabeth Gerrard Cruickshank and I was in Elgin and Mcduff as a young boy in '53 or '54 visiting my mothers relatives there. In Elgin there was a pop factory owned by one of her relatives and I remember the workers were friendly and could down a bottle of pop in the wink of an eye.

My grandfather, alexander Stephen Hossack was a ship's cook and sailed to Samoa after John was born. I believe there was also a James born to them as well as Elizabeth, my mother and her sister, Helen. My grandfather's brothers were William, Archie and Clement.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Census Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ReC.2ACI/2458 Message Board Post: The Scotland Free Census Project is part of the larger UK Free Census project (aka FreeCEN) that aims to transcribe all UK 19th century census returns to create an on-line 'free-to-view' database. The project was launched in April 2002 and to date has 6 active county projects and another 12 due to be underway by the end of the year. Each county project is beginning with the 1841 census returns and will move on to other years at the discretion of the county organizer. I am currently trying to recruit organizers for all open counties, including Banffshire. Organizers are responsible for recruiting and supervising a team of volunteers to transcribe their assigned county. To be an organizer, you just need some time, a computer and access to a microfilm or microfiche reader. All other materials are supplied by FreeCEN, including software, microfilm/fiche, and plenty of advice and instruction. If you are interested in organizing a project for Banffshire or another county, please contact me at [email protected] More information on the project can be found at http://www.speakeasy.org/~jgribble/scotland.html Thank you, Jennifer Gribble Scotland Recruiter & Ayrshire Coordinator UK FreeCEN Project http://www.speakeasy.org/~jgribble/scotland.html

My mother Marianne is the living female Kane. I have 3 brothers, no sisters. As far as we know we are the last of the Kane decendants. I'm anxious to find out if we are talking about the same family. I know O'Connor is a family name and the family came from Ireland around the same time. There is not another drop of blood in my mother but Irish. There is also a relative by the last name of Brennan who went to Ireland and researched the family history when I was a child. We have a copy of this somewhere. I just started the family tree last night and I'm hopeful. Would appreciate a reply. Thank you, Lisa Ray
