Surnames: Grant, Stuart, White Classification: Marriage Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ReC.2ACI/2392.1 Message Board Post: Here's my line from the last marriage we have in Glenlivet: Alexander Grant (b.1850 Glenlivet - d.1925Canada) married Margaret Stuart, m.30 jun 1883 in Chapeltown of Glenlivet (b.1851 Glenlivet - d.1935 Canada). Alex was son of Alexander Grant(b 1914Tombae - d.1861Chapeltown) alias Bowie and Mary Shaw m. 8 Jan 1846 in Chapeltown of Glenlivet --------------------- CORRECTION! CORRECTION! CORRECTION! The Grant/Shaw connection was an error! After some false starts (everyone in Glenlivet seems to be Grant or Stuart<g>) we found that the correct parents for Alexander (the 5th of twelve children) were Alexander Grant(b1804 - d. 10th March 1886, 3:30pm, Corunack, Glenlivat) and Ann Stuart (b.1829, Abernethy, Invernesshire - d.26th Dec 1902, 5am, Westerclova, Kildrummy). On Margarets side, parents are, James Stuart (b abt 1805 --- d.29th Oct 1869, 7:30pm, Mill of Auchnascraw) and Elspet Grant (b abt 1810 --- d.31 May 1882, 6am, Mill of Achnascraw, Glenlivat). Elspet Grant was widowed previous to marrying James Stuart and brought three young children to the second marriage. We have not yet found a source recording the first marriage. Further Generations: Alexander Grant (1804 - 1886). His parents were Duncan Grant (who came to the Braes of Glenlivet from Abernethy) and Mary White (b.abt 1769 - d. 24 Jan 1850) Ann Stuart (1829 - 1902). Her parents were James Stuart & Barbara Grant James Stuart(1805 - 1869) His parents were John Stuart & Janet Stuart Elspet Grant (1810 - 1882) Her parents were Alexander Grant (Who also came from the Braes of Abernethy) and Margaret White. It is possible that Alex & Duncan Grant were brothers and that they married sisters in the two White girls. Margaret White died early (after bearing at least one child) and Alexander married again, to Margaret Grant with whom he raised a fair sized family. Holdings in Glenlivat associated with the family are: Corunack. Auchnascraw, Clinkhard, Also, I've been told that at least some of the family used the alias Bouie or Bowie. --------------------------------------

    1. [Banff] Searching (Again) for Neil FLETCHER post 1841 census - Gamrie
    2. Nigel Boundy
    3. Greetings from Western Australia Listers! My name is Nigel Boundy in Western Australia. My mother's grandfather was Alexander FLETCHER born in Macduff, Gamrie SCT 1837. His parents were Neil and Janet FLETCHER nee BLACK. They were married in Macduff in 1832. They produced 5 children. On the 1841 census only Neil and Janet (both age 40), Alexander age 4, and 2 daughters Mary age 3 and Amelia age 10 months were listed. Two older brothers John Rainey and George were not listed and I can find no subsequent records for them. Perhaps they died pre 1841. Also, Neil is noted as not being born in the county of Banffshire. Neil was originally a sailor/seaman on his children's christenings until 1837 when he was noted as a merchant and then in 1840 as a grocer in Macduff. On the 1841 census he is a merchant and spice dealer. The age of Neil on the 1841 census confuses me as I have his christening as 1811 in Reay, Caithness which would give his age as 30. I hope I have the right christening? I deduced this christening from the name of Neil's first born son, John Rainey FLETCHER and one of Alexander's daughters. Janet MacDonald FLETCHER. The parents of the child, Neil, christened in Reay were John FLETCHER and Janet McDONALD. Anyway, none of the family is listed in the 1851 census of Gamrie. I searched all of 1881 census in Scotland, England and Wales and no mention of any of them. I do know what happened to son Alexander who ended up in Nelson, New Zealand perhaps on the "Gladiator" in 1861. He married Catherine McGEE in 1870 in Nelson and they immediately moved to Melbourne, Victoria. Alexander was a well known photographer and ran Art Galleries in Melbourne. He was involved in the Melbourne International Exhibition 1880/1881 as the Superintendent of Fine Arts. He received an honour for his role in this event. My problem is that I cannot trace any movements of the family post 1841 census of Gamrie. I searched the burial records in Gamrie. I searched the SR death records of Scotland post 1855 online at www.scotlandspeole.gov.uk. I wonder whether the whole family moved to New Zealand? If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. TIA Regards, Nigel BOUNDY Western Australia --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? HotJobs - Search new jobs daily now

There was also John(2), Robert, Christian, Isobel and James . My research is with the brother James 1758. I do know the brothers and sisters names, but not all of their descendents. I suggest you go to http://www.brebner.com and ask John Brebner what he knows. He is doing a huge Bremner family tree and may be able to help you further. He is also somehow related to the first George. The Bremners in New Zealand that I am related to were based in the Wairarapa, not Paeroa, although I believe there are a large number based elsewhere in New Zealand. Hope this helps...all the best Janine

I've found, as no doubt you have already, everybody in 1881 at various places, with the only candidate for 'my' George being 'your' George - it all ties in nicely. Interestingly, George gives his birthplace as Boyndie - I can't remember offhand exactly in which parish Culbeuchly is. George's place in Alvah is Kiltryknock. >From the 1861 census, wife Jessie Morrison had a child Jessie Ann Troup age 11 b Alvah; she married John Murdo 6-1-1870 and turns up in 1881 at Drywells (next door to Kiltryknock) with husband and family now known as Murdoch. I can give you the details offline if you like, but it's all in the IGI and 1881 census CDs. I'm now satisfied as to 'my' George Rennie's identity which I may eventually confirm at some date in the future.
