    1. [Banff] Researchers Required
    2. Sue Shade
    3. Dear All, I am in the process of setting up a new genealogical web site, which I hope will be a little different, that is aimed at anyone researching their family history within the UK. One of the sections is quite ambitious. I would like to create a list of researchers, that covers all of the counties within the United Kingdom. If there are any professional researchers present in this list who carry out research in the county of Banffshire and would like their details added (for free!) to my web site, please contact me off-list at the e-mail address below. The details I require are: Name, Address, Phone Number, E-mail address, URL (if applicable) Please note, address and phone number is not mandatory, these details can be omitted if required. Many thanks Sue Shade mailto:[email protected]

I've not done much of this lately Watts may have been the grocer - yes. I seem to remember my Mother say that. There were photos taken of us. In 1990 my Mum & Dad had their 50 Wedding Anniversary. A large number of cine films had been found in the old school. They were obtained by Grampian TV who were broadcasting a programme ?? The Way we were. Earlier that year Bebe saw the programme showing my parents wedding in 1940 at Mortlach church- it was in colour. My parents had never seen it. We were able to buy it from Grampian TV and it is now a video. At the same time my Mother informed me photos were also taken of us (the triplets) & my sisters but my mother never ever got them. I am desperate to find anyone who knows anything about the person who took the photos or about the films being found just in case I could locate them. That was the only name I remember. At Bebe's funeral I also met (? Cousin) of my uncle Stewart Strathdee married to Beatrice - living in Vancouver. Stewart & Kathleen Spence - he is the! brother of Elizabeth Ogilvie (the registrar in Keith). Bea & Jean are still alive did you know them. what do you remember about my grandparents? or my Mother?? If you can give me any help at all I would be very grateful. Thanks Sue

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ReC.2ACI/1358.1551.1553.1 Message Board Post: Hi Wendy - My great grandmother is also Sarah Raffan. Is there any way to find out who your great grandmother married - perhaps it was a David Scott . David Scott was apparently born in Scotland and was a horse dealer in Edinburgh (according to legend) but I had a researcher in Scotland try to find the birth , marriage or death of Sarah Raffan and he couldn't find anything. Where are you getting your information from and would you be able to see if your great grandmother married a David Scott. I figure my great grandmother was born about 1832 according to an unassisted passenger list of David and Sarah going to Australia on Aus 21st 1854 and arriving in Dec of that year. They started having children in Austsralia and subsequently returned to Scotland and had some more. I have the names of the children and can tell you what happened to most of them as they ended up dying in Canada and being buried here in Belleville, Ontario Canada. The researcher did say he thought Sarah Raffan wasn't from Scotland as there was no record of her birth so perhaps your Sarah born in London in 1839 is the same one. I know that my Sarah Raffan died before 1891 as her daughter Catherine listed her mother as deceased on her marriage certificate. I would love to hear from you to see if there is perhaps in deed a connection as I have been very frustrated as I can't seem to find out anything about this woman. Kind regards Heather if you want to email direct that would be okay

Surnames: Packman Russell Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ReC.2ACI/2475.1 Message Board Post: Hi Margaret. Yes: because he was illeg, when he was born he was registered by his mother, naturally using his mother's surname (the father was not mentioned). At some stage he took or was given his natural father's surname, to which he was quite entitled. There may have been an argument over fatherhood - the Register Of Births may even have a reference to the settlement of the dispute which would be recorded in the Register Of Corrected Entries. The 9 year old nephew of Joseph Russel is Alexander Packman, a scholar born Keith. He cannot be one of 'my' Packman family due to his age and place of birth; I therefore don't know who he is. Note the Russel spelling - this is a perfectly valid variation and may even give a clue when sorting out Russel(l) families. Elizabeth Packman never married, and died a Housekeeper on 20-9-1892 age 63 at Quarryhead, Rathven, her son Joseph Russell [sic] was present and the informant. Her parents are given as Joseph Packman Crofter (deceased) and Mary Packman ms O'Bryan (deceased). Source: death register 1892-Rathven-129. Since she's not a blood-relative any more detail I may have is buried away in my original notes and not readily to hand. Regards Howard

    3. Jim I'm late at catching up on reading most of November's lists and saw your message. Just a quick note to mention that I have previously done a wee bit of research on a Grant/Myron family from around the Dufftown area, who (or perhaps some of whose children - I can't quite recollect clearly) emigrated to the south of the South Island of New Zealand. Several members of that family were members of the Clan Grant Society of NZ when I was the research officer 15 or so years ago. Perhaps you are already in touch with (or perhaps descended from?) that branch, but if you want further details, I can endeavour to brush away the cobwebs!!!
