I think you may be the Howard that we met when we brought Beaty back and interned her ashes at Prt Knockie cemetery in 2000. 1. [Banff] Ann YOUNG Fordyce
    2. Howard Geddes
    3. Is anyone researching YOUNGs in Fordyce area? I am trying to identify Ann YOUNG. My gggg-grandparents are Peter GEDDES and Ann YOUNG who married 17-8-1782 Fordyce parish "both in this parish", the same day their first child Jean was baptised. They were in Yondertown Of Birkenbog, Fordyce, moving to Slogmahole Fordyce in 1793. Ann YOUNG turns up in the 1841 census at Slogmahole age 83 born in county (I would have thought it should be age 85 but 83 it apparently is): this puts her birth year around 1757/8, compared to her husband's birth year of 1749. Her last child was born 1794, which might hint at a birth year for her of 1794-40=1754. The only Young witness was at the baptism of John Geddes in 1792: "John YOUNG in Mains of Glasshaugh". The only candidate I have found for her is d/o Alexander YOUNG and Elizabeth GORDON in Burncrunach Gartly, bpt 25-5-1758. As far as I can make out, Burncrunach (or Burncruinach?) was in the Aberdeenshire portion of Gartly not the Banffshire portion, and anyway as far as ordinary folk would have been concerned surely she would have been recorded as 'not born in county' in 1841 if she was really born (anywhere) in the Gartly area. So I'm looking for her parentage much closer to home, e.g. Glasshaugh. I've fiddled around with naming conventions, and the best I can infer is that her parents might have been Alexander and Ann, Peter and Ann's children being Jean (maybe named after father's mother), Ann, Alexander, Peter (maybe named after father's father), John (is he a maternal-side uncle?), James (is he a paternal-side uncle?). And that's all I have. Howard Geddes

    3. Hi. Sheena is quite right. But in this case could there be two couples with same name? (I very much doubt it, by the way, but look at the available info.) At first sight, this is all one family of Alexander Horn (and Horne) and Christian (or Christan) Grant, taken mainly from IGI Fordyce batch C111532 but also Grange and Keith: George Horne b 1-6-1819 bpt 8-6-1819 Fordyce John Horn bpt 18-7-1819 Grange George Horn b 6-1821 bpt 30-6-1821 Keith WILLIAM HORN Male Christening: 11 MAY 1823 Fordyce, Banff JAMES HORN Male Christening: 17 NOV 1827 Fordyce, Banff ALEXANDER HORN Male Christening: 10 APR 1830 Fordyce, Banff ROBERT HORN Male Christening: 25 MAR 1832 Fordyce, Banff THOMAS HORN Male Christening: 12 OCT 1834 Fordyce, Banff FRANCIS ANNAND HORN Male Christening: 08 DEC 1836 Fordyce, Banff CATHERINE HORN Female Christening: 1839 Fordyce, Banff (born 31-8-1839) But look closer and it doesn't fit! I'll leave the conundrum with you! Howard Geddes

    3. Hi List Trying to trace parents of James Horne born Fordyce 17th Nov 1827 (married a Mary Goodall on Nov 1854) moved down to Alloa, Clackmannanshire around 1860. Have found on IGI an Alexander Horne & Christina Grant listed as his parents. However there appears to be two Alexander Horne & Christina Grants. One was married on 12 Dec 1818 at Grange, Banff and the other married on the 21 Dec 1818 at Keith. Who are the right parents? Maybe if someone has access to the 1851 census we can find the family. I suppose with the large families and lots of cousins of the same name it is not uncommon to find marriages with the same names - I have already come across this while tracing another family.
