Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ReC.2ACI/2516 Message Board Post: Hi listers, I really hope there is someone out there who can help me get some where. I am trying to trace my father's line and would appreciate any info anyone can come up on the following two people. Jeanie Hay Mutch (born in marnoch) parents unknown possibly around 1920.It is believed that she was an orphan by one of her daughters from a later marriage. She had my father Alexander Riddell Mutch and his brother Edward (died young age (possibly 16 years old)) whilst living in Aberchirder (foggieloan) and the father is believed to be a John Riddell. My father was tracedby a half sister called Evelyn who has since died but i believe she may have lived in Ellon. there is also believed to be another half brother. My grandmother then left Aberchirder, leaving my father and brother with my granny chrissie who lived on main street or south street I believe and who brought my father up as one of her own. I believe my grandfather also lived on main street or possibly south street but this is from word of mouth via my mother. jeanie then was traced to dingwell, the black Isle where it is believed she got married to a David Stirling and had further children of which there were twins. she died in 1962 from cancer aged 42 hence the approximate birth date. She was buried in a churchyard in dingwall although I have no name of which one. my grandfather (John riddell) is believed to have died around 1993 although it could have been later and is buried in the marnoch churchyard. I believe my fathers brother Edward is also buried in the marnoch churchyard. he died from asthma at an early age. I really hope someone can help me out here. I've tried searching the LDS for both but haven't come up with anything. maybe they are too recent or something. Any help would be greatfully recieved. Thanks in advance Adele wallwork [email protected]

    3. I made an error when I posted this last night - Margaret's maiden name was DAVIDSON and not Sandison. I have a Margaret Davidson, who married my great-grandfather, Peter Sandison in July 1852 in Boyndie, Banffshire. Her death certificate information as follows: Margaret Sandison m. to Peter Sandison, Crofter d. 5 April 1908, 1 pm at Cookston Croft, Parish of Brechin, Age 76. Her parents were Alexander Davidson, Road Contractor and Helen Stewart. In the 1881 Census they are living in Brechin and she lists her birth place as Fordyce. They are both buried in Brechin Smithbank Cemetery, Lair 77, Compt. 1. (no stone). Any connection with anyone's Davidson family? ey

    3. Thanks June for your email re the interchangable name of Jane and Jean. I will certainly keep this in mind when doing my research. I am not sure that in my case that Jean and Jane Brodie are the same person as they had different partners. Jane Brodie b 1809 m Charles McLean Jean Brodie b 1805 m John Morrison 1825 ( this was Johns second wife) mmmmmmmmmmmmmm I wonder if I have this wrong and Jean is John Morrisons first wife and she married Charles McLean at some later date. Guess I will have to double check and ask Greg about the date of marriage for his Jane and Charles. I am 100% certain that my Brodie m John Morrison in 1825 and that her parents were James Brodie and Isbel Laurance but mybe my other infor regards 1st and 2nd wives and their order could be wrong. Isnt geneology wondefull Thanks again Regards Anne _________________________________________________________________ Use MSN Messenger to send music and pics to your friends http://messenger.msn.co.uk

    3. Hi there if you find a James Lawrance/Laurance/Laurence, Feuar, in your search born around 1750ish in Banffshire or Aberdeen, let me know. His daughter Ann Lawrance born around 1789 is my great great grandmother. The census and her death certificate say she was born King Edward, Aberdeen. But she lived in Banff from before 1841 until her death in 1872. Although she had at least one child Jessie Elliot, father John Elliot, Druggist, her status on census and death say single. That does not mean that she was not married as after the death of spouse women often reverted to their single status or name. Wife of James Lawrance unknown. Lawrance is a particularly difficult surname to research in that area, I have even used professional researcher and have not found James. I would be pleased to hear from anyone who had a James Lawrance or similar spelling around that period. 3. I would like to post the following family and see if anyone out there is searching for them: William Shand married Eliza Ellise November 2, 1799 in Auchterless - Children: Margaret Shand, b. 1799, Keith, Banffshire, d. June 18, 1886, Turriff, Aberdeenshire Alexander Shand, b. 1801 Christian Shand, b. 1804 Isabel Shand, b, 1807 William Shand, b. 1809 Robert Shand, b. 1812 Margaret Shand married James Robb September 16, 1821 in Auchterless In the 1881 census Dwelling: Gamekeepers Lodge, Rothiemay, Banff James ROBB, Head, Gamekeeper, Unmarried, age 56, M, born Auchterless Margaret ROBB, Mother, Housekeeper, Widow, age 81, F, born Auchterless The above Margaret Shand is the mother of my great-grandmother, Margaret Robb and the above James is my great-grandmother's brother. This family apparently moved from Banffshire to Auchterless, Aberdeenshire as their first child , Alexander,(Margaret Shand and James Robb) was born in Auchterless as were the rest of their children. I also have James Sandison born in Inverkeithny and died March 10, 1858 and married to Margaret Geddes ca 1809 in Forgue. My great grandfather, Peter Sandison was one of their children and born Inverkeithny, 1830. He had two children with Margaret Robb, daughter of James Robb and Margaret Shand. Peter's sister, Isabella, b. 1831, Inverkeithny married James Taylor June 2, 1855 in Ordiquhill, Banffshire. They are in the 1881 census in Fordyce. James Taylor was the son of George Taylor and Christina Sharp. Witnesses were George Taylor and Alexander Taylor. I have further information on this family which includes a daughter, Ann Taylor, born in Fordyce May 15, 1871 and married Henry Lawrence March 10, 1893 in Portsoy.

    3. Hello Greg Saw your email on the Grant family and your list of interests. I am reaearching the following Jane Brodie m John Morrison april 27 1825 Gamrie Banff. Jane was the daughter of James Brodie and Isobell Laurance. One of John Morrison/Jane Brodie children was Jean Grant Morrison. Jean Grant Morrison b july 28 1827. I have no idea at this stage where the Grant came from and this is the one and only time this name shows in the Morrison line. I am aware it was usual for middle names to be given to children that belonged to grandmothers and if that is the case then either James Brodie or Isobell Laurance mother was a Grant. I was wondering if our families link in at all. I would be gratefull for any help or information you may have. At this moment in time the names I am looking for in the Banffshire area are Morrison, Brebner,Tayleor,Davison,Brodie,Michie,Laurance,Heatherwick Anne Ambrose nee Morrison _________________________________________________________________

    3. I am after contact with descendants of George McIntosh born Ianstown probably around the early 1880's. He was the second son of William Robertson McIntosh b 1853 Portessie d 1927 Portessie. He was from a family of boatbuilders, building fishing boats at Portessie and Ianstown. I have a note saying he married, had six children and died in Durban, South Africa in 1957. My grandfather, Duncan McIntosh, would have been Georges first cousin and worked in South Africa in 1923 - 24 before emigrating to Australia. I am researching Duncan and believe George's family may hold the key to further discoveries. Regards Glenn McIntosh
