    3. www.tireegathering.com www.isleoftiree.net Sunday, July 25, 2004 "Tiree Bus to the Bruce" Update! Thanks to David Sharron - Archivist - Bruce County Museum & Archives and Bruce County's "Friends of Tiree" Don Ribey, Eleanor and Allan Thompson, Dr. Archie MacKinnon, Betty MacKinnon, Alberta Smith, Dorothy Irwin and no doubt a few others here is what we have lined up on the agenda! This agenda has yet to be finalized, but the tentative agenda as per below is an excellent start to a wonderful and learned day. A bus full of Tirisdeachs . . . how exciting! Aye, an exciting Gathering July 23, 24, 25, 2004 beginning on Friday, a full day and a ceilidh in Guelph on Saturday, an early morning bus ride on Sunday . . . makes you wonder if we should run a sunset to sunrise ceilidh! Regardless, Aye, "Be Prepared" for an early start to the day on Sunday, July 25, 2004! The bus will most likely leave as early as 7:30 a.m. in order to allow for an approximately 2 hour trip to our first destination. Aye, you may even wish to bring a pillow! The tour and lunch schedule agenda are well under way. We have access to the bus for 15 hours, not to say that we will use all 15 hours. However, I doubt we will be back in Guelph for dinner, so with that we will most likely make arrangements to stop for dinner en route back to Guelph, thereafter for those that are still up for it, and no doubt many of you will be, we enjoy parting farewells, a wee dram, thirst quenching pint, entertainment, etc. at Shakespeare Arms adjacent to where the Denny's Bus will drop us off and adjacent to the Ramada Inn, Day's Inn, UoG where many of you are staying. For those joining us on the "Tiree Bus to the Bruce" wonderful! For those that are not, be certain to meet up with us at Shakespeare Arms upon our return to Guelph from the Bruce. Aye, kilts are mandatory! Aye, Julie at Shakespeare Arms, who is preparing for arrival of the Tirisdeachs . . . Shakespeare Arms - Guelph's finest pub! . . . assures me that the Tirisdeachs will have a wonderful time at Shakey's . . . karaoke and all, no doubt with many favorite Scottish tunes to be had to sing along to! You say you have your own musical instruments, stories, poetry, humour, dance, etc. . . . wonderful, bring them along . . .likewise for the ceilidh at Boathouse - Friday night, Royal City Park on Saturday afteroon and at the ceilidh on Saturday night at the Legion! Cheers, Scott Cameron - Guelph, Ontario, Canada www.tireegathering.com www.isleoftiree.net -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello Scott, Don Ribey came in and visited me today to talk about the bus tour through Bruce County. Don wanted to make sure that parts of the tour were not going to be duplicated. He has done quite a bit of research on this and it sounds pretty good to me. Note that the times are only estimates and does not take into account bathroom breaks, lollygagging and other stops or slow downs. Also, all activities are not set in stone yet and have to be nailed down. Feel free to suggest changes to times as you see fit (we were not quite sure when the bus will leave Guelph and when you had to return). 9:45 a.m. - stop in Formosa (Roman Catholic church steeple was built by a Tiree descendant - very unique architecture) - since church services will be going on, it is unlikely that a tour will be possible. 10:30 - 11:30 - stop in Glammis - Eleanor and Allan Thompson will give an orientation of the village (some Tiree emigrants settled in this area). 11:30 - 12:00 - travel down the 10th concession of Kincardine Township (a lot of Tiree homesteads down this line) - tour by Dr. Archie MacKinnon. 12:00 - 12:45 - Lunch at the Lions' Hall in Tiverton put on by Karen Ribey (Bruce Township and Kincardine Township history books and other books will be available for sale here - some info on Tiree). 12:45 - 1:30 - tour of the Tiverton Cemetery by Betty MacKinnon; stop at the Knox Presbyterian Church with orientation by Alberta Smith. 1:30 - 3:00 - 30 mile tour of Bruce Township by Don Ribey - will go through the port town of Inverhuron, by the nuclear plant and wind farms, past many pieces of property owned by Tiree ancestors, Underwood Presbyterian Church, Lovat Cemetery (tour by Dorothy Irwin), and all points in between. 3:00 - 3:30 - travel to Port Elgin and Southampton (advise taking the Shore Road to get scenic views of Lake Huron, the beaches, the Chantry Island lighthouse and some very nice homes on the lake). 3:30 - 4:30 - temporary location of the Bruce County Museum & Archives - orientation to the Reading Room (genealogical and archival resources) and walk through our temporary exhibits. 4:30 - ?????? - up to you - we didn't know how long you would be out on the road. Again, like all tours, things will likely fall behind on schedules. But this is a good start. Please give us your thoughts soon. There is going to be a meeting next Tuesday to firm things up. It would be good to know your position on this by then. Lastly, the Museum & Archives will not be able to send anyone down to the gathering with a presentation. However, we will be sending you a box of 100 packages that you can make available on a tabletop. Talk to your later. Call if you have any questions. The bus is "full". Thank you to everyone who signed up for the bus! So with that thanks again! For those that have not signed up I suppose I can put you on a wait list or look to hiring another bus which will require a minimum of about 45 in order to do so. Otherwise perhaps you can car pool. If you are meeting us for lunch in Tiverton I will need to know this too. Those on the bus I am ordering a lunch for you. "Passage to the Bruce" > $ 30.00 for the bus. $ 10.00 for the lunch $ 40.00 total payable to Scott on Sunday, July 25, 2004 as we board the bus, exact amount please, no cheques.
