Hi Flora, I appreciate your sending me the 1776 "Census" for Coll, since that seems to be exactly what it is! Although the survey was taken by the Church of Scotland, and not as a secular census, it is a census for all practical purposes. For those of you with Coll connections, the document is called "Coll Kirk Session Records: List of the Inhabitants in the Island of Coll Dec 2 1776" It apparently documents everyone on the Island, showing a population of 938, very consistent with the other population counts Keith has just mentioned in his previous message. Keith, have you ever heard of this "census"? When you were looking at the Tiree OPRs, did you get any sense that the Church might have also done such a enumeration of the Inhabitants of Tyree at the same time? Although there is one page missing, it is still a most valuable document. Thank you again Flora for making it available to all of us. I find Coll very difficult to get info on and 3 different ancestors of mine came to Canada from Coll. MacDonald, MacFadyen, MacKinnon. If anyone is researching these names in Coll, please drop me a line. Maybe we can build on each other`s info. And if anyone wants the Coll Church Records from 1776, let me know. Thanks Flora
