Lesley McLean -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.rootsweb.com/~onbcgs/ Bruce County Genealogocial Society Scottish Roots Review Workshop, Saturday, May 8th, 2004. Speakers are: Borders - Allan Scott, Colonsay - Mary McKay, Isle of Lewis - Diane Simpson, and Isle of Tiree - Scott Cameron. I attended the meeting with three other excellent speakers. I presented Isle of Tiree during a 45 minute presentation, table top display and question and answer session during the meeting which ran from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. I covered many topics of interest including the Gathering, History of Isle of Tiree, emigration arrangements, immigration, settlements and personal reflections of the Tirisdeach immigrants to Canada. There was much interest generated from those at the meeting about attending the Gathering. En route I visited the Lovat Cemetary where my gr. gr. gr. grandparents are buried. On the tombstone reference is made to "Native of Tyree, Argylshire, Scotland". I make mention of this as a comment was made to me recently that there was thought that Tyree / Tiree was not included on tombstones. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Scott Cameron www.tireegathering.com www.isleoftiree.net
