    1. Tiree settlements / Indian land - Canada - etc. Vicki Morgan

    3. Hi Scott, I too, know that Tirisdeachs were coming to Canada before 1847. My McPhaden ancestors came between 1820 and 1825. They brought a family of 6 with them, the youngest born on Tiree in 1820. They had a 7th child born in Canada in 1825. I have been unable to locate any other information about their travels - boat they came on, dates of travel, where they landed, who they knew in Canada, when they settled, etc. Usually the new immigrants went to stay with relatives or friends from home until they could establish their own homes, then served as hosts for those coming afterward. I'd like to ask if anyone can identify "Indian lands" and why immigrants would settle there. I'm assuming that it would be somewhere along the present Quebec/Ontario border, which would be close to the home settlement. One of this family was living on Indian lands. Could this be for a fur trading purposes? I certainly would like to be at the gathering but it just doesn't seem possible. I'll be thinking of you and hoping to hear all about it from some who are going. Vicki Morgan rmvm@mb.sympatico.ca
