1. HECTOR1 MCLEAN was born Abt. 1811 and died Abt. 1854 in Tiree, Argyleshire, Scotland. He married CATHERINE MCLEAN around 1840 or so. She was born Abt. 1816 and died in Osprey, Grey, Ontario. In the 1842 Argylshire Census, it appears that Hector (25) is a crofter living in Kenovay, Tiree with Catherine (20) and John (2 mths). Also living in the same location are Donald (15), Hector (20) a crofter and Margaret (55) a female servant. In 1854, Hector died (family tradition indicates he drowned). They had four sons with the last born after Hector's death. In about 1855, Catharine and the four boys emigrated to Osprey Township, Grey County, Ontario, Canada. When they arrived, they lived with a Donald McLean family. He was likely her brother. Sometime after 1862 Catharine remarried to Duncan Richmond. He married FLORA MCCALLUM November 30, 1871 in Port Huron, Michigan. She was born August 16, 1849 in Ontario. He married CHRISTENA MCFADYEN Abt. 1874, daughter of ALEXANDER MCFADYEN and EVA ?. She was born 1851 in Osprey, Ontario, and died June 28, 1884 in Gore Bay, Manitoulan, Ontario. Big Hector was a sailor. For a few years they settled on Barrie Island until Christena passed away. He is buried in Orilla. Children of HECTOR MCLEAN and CHRISTENA MCFADYEN are: i. He married CHRISTENA MCPHAIL Abt. 18742, daughter of DONALD MACPHAIL and MARY MCDONALD. She was born 1859 in Osprey, Grey, Ontario, and died August 02, 1900 in Osprey, Grey, Ontario. He married ELEANOR WITTY March 15, 1883 in Gore Bay, Ontario, daughter of BURTON WITTY and GALOMA (or Saloma?) ?. Little Hector was an Inn keeper at Gore Bay, Nairn Center and Sault Ste. Marie.
