Dear Tiree Listers, Over the next few days, we will be launching a Roll Call on this List to coincide with the Tiree Gathering 2004. It will launch now and continue over the next few weeks. The main purpose of the Roll Call is to make sure that everyone’s Tiree ancestry is listed by surname in the Archives of this Tiree Mailing List. Your response to the Roll Call can be in the form of a long family history (maximum one page of typewriting) or a brief paragraph, or even a simple outline of genealogy. Even if your family’s information is already in the Archives, please post it again in response to this Roll Call. The idea is to get a bird's eye view of the ancestral connections of all the Tiree descendants who are currently involved in genealogy research. When the Roll Call is done, we hope to organize these individual pieces of family stories on a website according to surnames. Everyone with Tiree or Coll ancestry is welcome to participate. You don’t have to belong to this List or be attending the Gathering in order to be part of the Roll Call. You only need to have a connection to Tiree or Coll in your ancestry. Dear Louise, I have a feeling that you will be inundated but here is what I know of my Tiree connection. My great grandfather,James Galbraith, was the Old Parochial schoolmaster on the island and he and his wife, Janet Wotherspoon, both came from Gigha originally. They lived on the croft at Ballevulin and had three daughters - Sarah who was my grandmother ( married Boyack Donald and left to live in Glasgow), Mary Campbell Galbraith(married John MacDonald) and Janet Wotherspoon Galbraith(married Donald MacDonald). I dont know if Mary or Janet had any descendants.
