Hi again Tiree folk, I received the information about the Canadian Fallen Heroes Foundation from Wallace and Jeanette Robertson of Winnipeg. It is a project to memorialize every Canadian, who died serving in the Military, by means of a poster with his or her photograph and short biography, to be displayed in perpetuity in an accessible, community location . Wallace and Jeanette will be travelling to Brandon today for the ceremony in honour of 46 fallen heroes of that area. Two of those are relatives of Wallace, an Uncle Harold Robertson and a cousin Harold McLean. Wallace is a direct descendant of the McLeans of "Manitoba House" in Balephuill, Tiree. The display is being held as follows; Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium University of Brandon Campus Brandon, Manitoba Monday, January 30th, 2006 Time: 7 to 9 P.M. Here is the URL for the Fallen Heroes website: http://www.canadianfallenheroes.ca Unfortunately, the searchable database for all 117,000 heroes is not functioning yet. But if you think that one of your relatives should be included in the project, you can contact the Foundation to see if they need you to send any information to them. There is no charge for their service. The project is a Canadian charity and any donations made to it are tax deductible. This is a short write up which I found on the Net: "According to Mark Norman, founder of the Canadian Fallen Heroes Foundation, "Canadians have a debt of immense gratitude to the men and women of our military who met our country's call in its time of need. We can never begin to repay them, but we can remember them, every ONE of them." And that is exactly what Norman and his Fallen Heroes Foundation have set out to do. Their goal is to produce one personal memorial print for all 117,000 Canadian men and women that have died in either the Boer War, WWI, WWII, or other UN peacekeeping missions." A full page newspaper spread has been published of the Brandon area Fallen Heroes, showing all 46 of their photographs. I will forward a copy to Scott Cameron for him to send out to his Tiree List (which does allow pictures). In addition to Wallace's relatives mentioned above, there is a George Fraser McLaurin being honoured who is related to the Lamonts of Cornaigbeg, Tiree (Peter Lamont who married Ann McLean and emigrated to Canada on the Conrad in 1851). There may be other Tiree descendants on the Brandon honour roll, but it is not obvious from the surnames listed. If you would like to see the names and photos for Brandon, but do not belong to Scott's List, I'm sure he will be glad to send you the pictures if you send him an email. Do let the List know if you are aware of any more Tiree descendants in Canada who have been honoured as Fallen Heroes in this worthwhile project. Sincerely, Louise MacDougall Vancouver Island, BC Canada
