    3. Darryl, I have had the same experience Googling her name. I have a few old photocopies that were given to me many years ago: "Nineteenth Century Tiree Emigrant Communities in Ontario", Oral History, The Journal of the Oral History Society, Vol 9 No 2, Autumn 1981, pp 49-61 "Poets and Pioneers" - publication information unknown Apparently there are audio tapes at the Sound Archive of the School of Scottish Studies (Edinburgh) of interviews taped in 1974-75 and 1978-79 in Brock Tp, Osprey Tp, Kincardine Tp and Bruce Tp. All of this could be quite interesting to many on our list if they could be made available. 3. Thanks for this information Russ. Yes, we really need to figure out how to get Dr. Mackay's interviews available to Tiree researchers. I am particularly interested in the Kincardine and Bruce Township intereviews. Does anyone have transcriptions of any of those? In addition to the Ontario intereviews you mentioned below, she also did interviews out West. I know of one pioneer family in Saskatchewan who was interviewed by her, and my own Great-great Uncle "Bard John McLean" who emigrated from Balephuille to the Brandon area of Manitoba is featured in her "Poets and Pioneers". In that article, she also tells of Dugald McKinnon of Manitoba who went courting his future bride with his team of trained moose (Dugald was a relative of Wallace Robertson of Winnipeg, MB, and the Bard just mentioned was Wallace's great-great-uncle). Maybe Dr. Mackay will use some of her Canadian interview material in her forthcoming book which is mentioned on the Tiree Archive website as follows: "Dr. Margaret A. Mackay. A Scottish Canadian, Margaret Mackay is Director of the School of Scottish Studies at the University of Edinburgh, where she is also Senior Lecturer in Scottish Ethnology. She is very well known in Tiree, having undertaken extensive fieldwork in the island, focusing particularly on emigration to Canada. She has written major articles on Tiree communities in Canada, and is engaged in a book on the history of Tiree in the eighteenth and nineteenth century." (Source: http://www.smo.uhi.ac.uk/~iodhlann/index.html and then click "Our Stucture") About the tape by her which started this discussion, I think I might know which one it is. I will dig around a bit and post a separate message about it.
