    3. The "Statistical Account of Scotland (1791-1799)" and "The New Statistical Account of Scotland (1834-1835)" give detailed descriptions of life and society in each parish of the country. They are key source documents for anybody interested in the social history of Scotland, particularly those who wonder what the conditions at home were like that persuaded their ancestors to emigrate. In the course of his family history research Iain Campbell made comprehensive summaries of the entries for the Parish of Tiree & Coll in both the 'Old' and 'New' Statistical Accounts, and has generously offered to share them with us. You can download Iain's summaries at www.keithdash.net - just click on the "Statistical Accounts" link. Also on the Statistical Accounts webpage is a summary of the entry for the Parish of Tiree & Coll in "A Topographical Dictionary of Scotland (1846)", by Samuel Lewis, which covered much the same ground but in less detail than "The New Statistical Account". As well as being the author of these summaries of the Statistical Accounts, Iain is also the author of the searchable spreadsheet of the census data for Tiree in "The Inhabitants of the Argyll Estate, 1779" at www.keithdash.net. Any thanks should be directed to him; I'm just the medium. His address is <iain.campbell2@tesco.net> . _________________ Keith Dash Sydney, Australia
