Dear Tiree folk, Please take advantage of this opportunity to post all of your Manitoba ancestors here for everyone to view. Also if you post them before next Thursday, I will arrange to have them on display at the the Tiree-Brandon Day on Saturday. It would be most helpful to everyone if you would put your ancestors names in the “Subject” field e.g. MacDougalls of Shellmouth, MB. Posting Tips: 1. Your message must be in Plain Text or it will not be accepted by this List. 2. When you are replying, make sure that the address of the List shows up in your “To” field. If it’s not there copy and paste this one: SCT-ARL-TIREE-L@rootsweb.com 3. If you want to put a live link in your post, then you must make sure that the URL starts with http:// Let's hear from as many folk as possible who have Tiree-Manitoba ancestors! For all of you who wish you could find your ancestor that disappeared somewhere in Manitoba, please Reply to this message and add your ancestors name in the Subject Line. For example, Missing in Manitoba: Annie (MacDougall-Lamont)McIntyre Then, of course, list a few bits of genealogy or Last Seen details. Go ahead and list your missing people even if you haven't exhausted all the search tools that I just posted in the last message. I will display your Missing in Manitoba folk in Brandon on Saturday. Hi Everyone, In preparation for the Isle of Tiree Descendants in Manitoba Day next Saturday, Scott our List Administrator has given me permission to hold a Roll Call on this List for Tiree folk who settled in Manitoba, Canada. You should see 3 messages come out after this one: 1.Clues for Finding Your Ancestors in Manitoba 2.Missing in Manitoba (for ancestors you have lost track of in Manitoba, or think may have settled in Manitoba but you’re not sure) 3.Manitoba-Tiree Roll Call: for short histories, genealogies, or even just one-liners about your ancestors. I will try to have all the “Roll Call” posts and “Missing in Manitoba” posts on display in Brandon next Saturday. N.B. Things to watch for when you are replying to the List: 1. Your post must be in Plain Text or it will not be accepted by this List. 2. When you are replying, make sure that the address of the List shows up in your “To” field. If it’s not there copy and paste this one: SCT-ARL-TIREE-L@rootsweb.com 3. It would be most helpful to everyone if you would put your ancestors names in the “Subject” field e.g. MacDougalls of Shellmouth, MB. Let's hear from all of you who have Manitoba connections, even if you only have time to post a couple sentences. It will be a very useful tool for many people in the future to use to search the Archives of this List. Dear Fellow Tyree -ites, Sorry - I haven't been following the discussion. Is it possible to place an enquiry at the gathering in Manitoba in some way that the folk interested in Tyree ancestors will be able to view it? I am looking for my Tyree great grandmother and grandmother who moved away from Bruce in 1904. Maybe they move to Manitoba to be with cousins? They are Jessie (McLean) Elliott b.1850 and Matilda (aka Lily) Elliott b. 1883. Grateful for any ideas as to how to take this forward - hope it is a wonderful day for everyone. Hi Valerie, Yes, I'll be collecting requests such as yours to display at our Tiree genealogy day in Brandon. Please watch this list for the instructions about the Roll Call for Manitoba. I hope to have those posted today or tomorrow, but first I would like people to try to find their family online. I will post the Manitoba search links here on the List shortly. http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/radioscotland/ Aye, Good morning....just getting a start to the day with "Radio Scotland" before heading up to Huron County...just to the south of the Bruce to canoe the Maitland River with my sister Heather and her family Mike, Marshall and Ethan and celebrate Marshall's # 12 birthday, etc., etc. It is a fine spring day in Southern Ontario...sunny and highs of 20 deg. cel. While logging in to Radio Scotland I caught the announcement of Tiree's / Speen Bridge, Scotland's "Skippinish" to be aired on Radio Scotland's: Travelling Folk (2 hr) Broadcast on Radio Scotland - Thu 19 May - 20:00 Archie Fisher presents the best from the world of folk and traditional music, featuring the cream of the new releases and gig highlights from around Scotland. Winner of Radio / TV Show of the Year at the inaugural Scots Trad Music Awards, Travelling Folk features regular concert sets and sessions, as well as interviews with top talent from the Scottish folk scene. Now in its 25th year, Travelling Folk presents a rich and varied mixture of music, from Shetland fiddle to bluegrass mandolin, and Borders ballads to Gaelic mouth music. You can listen to any of Radio Scotland's previously week's aired shows by cursing on "Listen Again" and then picking the show you want to hear...in this case "Travelling Folk". You have until the next show to hear Skippinish...hurry hard before Thursday. Great interview with Angus and Andrew and music too...even mentioned Skippinish CD's getting exposure in Canada! H'mmm, anyone know who was responsible for this Archie? Good show! Skippinish http://www.tradmusic.com/groupinfoa.asp?groupID=1599 Angus MacPhail : (Accordion) Andrew Stevenson : (Highland Pipes, Scottish Small Pipes) Traditional ceilidh band Skippinish are accordionist Angus MacPhail and piper Andrew Stevenson. They play classic-style country dance tunes with laid-back but zestful flair, embellished by plenty of supple ornamentation and tautly measured lift. Their debut CD "Scurr Mòr To Skerryvore" received a great deal of critical acclaim. Their second album, "Skippinish" is now also available. Cheers, have a nice weekend. Scott

Dear Louise, How I would love to attend the Tyree Gathering at Brandon on May 28. Unfortunately, today's email was the first I learned of this Gathering. While my Tyree ancestors settled in Bruce County I made friends with many Manitoban Tyreeites last summer in Guelph and would love the opportunity to become reacquainted with them. In addition to being my daughter's birthday, there is a wedding planned for that day. I am happy to hear it's happening even though I can't be there. All the Best to my fellow Tyreeites. Barbara Humphrey Babs Hello especially to Hector (our house mate) and Jeanette and Wallace.

Hello, I'm going to post this query to more than 1 list, so please forgive me if you receive it more than once. I'm struggling with my MCKINNONs (I have at least 3 lines of them on my Dad's maternal side!) & I wondered if anyone might be able to help me figure out who is who & who was where - with 1 branch anyway. My gggrandparents were Archibald MCKINNON (b. abt. 1810 to Neil MCKINNON & Margaret MCARTHUR) & Catherine MCARTHUR (b. abt. 1813 to Archibald MCARTHUR & Catherine MCLEAN) both in Kilfinichen & Kilvickeon, I believe. (Notice I have 2 MCARTHUR lines too!) My gggrandparents were reportedly married in 1831 at K & K. After this, things get foggy. My Dad, has been trying to get a handle on these folks for years & has come up with these children for Archibald & Catherine ... Catherine b. 1839 Donald b. 1843 Neil b. 1847 Ann b. unknown maybe 1849? He can find no actual birth records for them & after 1847, the family is basically unaccounted for. Neil (my ggrandfather) had no education or English ... were they somewhere very remote? They were last known at Burgh. In my recent research, I keep coming up with a couple by the same name, but I'm not sure if it's them or not because they were found on Iona & most of the above children are missing. This Archibald MCKINNON & Catherine MCARTHUR had ... Allan b. 1832 John b. 1835 Rory b. 1837 Catherine b. 1839 Mary b. 1842 Hugh b. 1844 Thomas b. 1848 Margaret b. 1851 All born Iona but Allan was born K & K I'm really confused ... were there 2 couples with the same names or just the one? Help! Thanks so very much. Mary in Canada p.s. The Tiree connection comes when Neil MCKINNON married Ann PATTERSON (d/o Donald PATTERSON & Isabella PATTERSON) of Tiree ... yes, I have 2 PATTERSON lines too - this couple was in fact 1st cousins to each other!
Hi there I am a new subscriber to the Tiree List I am trying to trace my 4 times great grandparents Archibald McFarlane and Marion McPhaiden; they were married on 16th April 1816 on Tiree. I have managed to trace 1 daughter Mary B March 1820 in Kilninian and Kilmore Parish but that is all, Mary Married Donald Mcilchere in 1839 in Campbeltown. I have hit a bit of a brick wall on this one and would very grateful if anyone has any information on these people Thanks in advance David

Things are moving slowley regarding securing funding for the project. However, I believe this is not a major problem and the event will still be going ahead. I am at the stage of sending out a information pack which gives a lot of information about Tiree, how to get here, where to stay, and general information. I already have some address details of interested folks, but if anyone else wants an information pack please e-mail and address PLEASE NOTE NEW E MAIL ADDRESS: tcbcrossapol@btinternet.com I hope to send them out by the end of this week - 6th May. The information packs are pretty heavy so if anyone out there could reduce postal costs by distributing them to a few folks in the same area, please let me know. Many thanks for your interest and please pass on this information to any interested parties. A. Hi Scott, By the end of the summer Bluewater Radio hopes to be able to load the "Sounds of Scotland" show on Andy's web page. You will then be able access the last few shows with a simple download. The show is hugely popular, and is much in demand. Q. Cheers, scott Comment: Folks be sure to check out Andy Mack's "The Sounds of Scotland" 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. EST at www.bluewaterradio.ca CFBW 91.3 Hanover, Ontario, Canada .... just up the road from Guelph / Fergus ! Ciamar a tha sibh?" This is long over due, but I am going to do it. I will soon be sending out an email to everyone on "Scott Cameron's Isle of Tiree Email List" and to those who enjoy SCT-ARL-TIREE-L@rootsweb.com. If you are getting my emails re: Isle of Tiree, Scotland, wonderful, no doubt you know who are! If you are not, respond by writing in the subject line " Subscribe > "Scott Cameron's Isle of Tiree, Scotland Email List" and reply to Scott Cameron at j.scottcameron@rogers.com . If you do not want to be on the list, please respond ASAP in the subject line "Do Not Include Me on Scott Cameron's Isle of Tiree, Scotland Email List". I can't imagine who would not want to be included. The list will include everyone's name and email address. In some cases some mailing addresses, etc. will be included. Many have requested this information in order to keep in contact with each other. Why should I be the only with the master list? I will add to the list as more "members" join, mostly those who register to the "Tiree Rootsweb" SCT-ARL-TIREE-L@rootsweb.com site, of which I am the administrator, but are not on the email list. Each time someone joins the "Tiree Rootsweb" mailing list I will invite them to join "Scott Cameron's Isle of Tiree, Scotland Email List". With this email I have attached a number of websites as they relate to Isle of Tiree, Scotland and more! I doubt very much that the attachments will go through on the SCT-ARL-TIREE-L@rootsweb.com , so if you are not a member of "Scott Cameron's Isle of Tiree, Scotland Email List" respond by writing in the subject line " Subscribe > "Scott Cameron's Isle of Tiree, Scotland Email List". Right I was, I tried, but the website attachments did not go through on SCT-ARL-TIREE-L@rootsweb.com . FYI > For those that have enjoyed www.isleoftiree.net check it out now! Slàinte mhòr agad!
