    3. >Here I am sitting in the early morning sun in Armidale NSW AUS >turning greener and greener .. with envy that is. I hope all the >'gang' has a wonderful time even if the fog comes down. I will repost my interest which is very vague and concerns Mull, Morven and Tiree. My Dugald McLACHLAN was first married to a Mary McEACHERN. Their son Dugald was born 1805 in Morven. Presumably Mary died unless the son was illegitimate and the OPR itself does not say this is so. It is possible she was a sister of Hugh McEACHERN but I have been unable to confirm this. Then Dugald married Peggy McKINNON in Torosay in 1812. She died in childbirth in abt 1818. I also know nothing of her .. Mull or Tiree or Morven? Children: Anne 1813, Jean 1816, Donald abt 1817, Marion 1818 .. perhaps the names are a clue! Then Dugald married Peggy McEACHERN in 1819 and they were then living back in Morven. Children: Anne 1820, John 1828, Duncan 1830, Allan 1832, Anne 1835. Are there some missing here? My main connection is via Dugald born 1805. His son John b 1832 came to Australia. Jean also came to AUS but what of any of the others? If anyone seems to have a gap where the wives of Dugald seem to fit I would be very grateful for any input. Anne Maye.

    3. Hi Louise Yes, I was thinking along the lines you've listed, a genealogy room where we can display our family trees, search the available censii (? correct terminology), parish records, etc. I've no access to a FHC and therefore to the LDS films. Do you think these will be available? I'm also hoping the staff of the archives will be available to perhaps 'point us in the right direction'. Let me expand that question a bit to the whole List: Anyone on this List, whether or not you are going to the Homecoming, please post any suggestions you might have about how we can help people to find lost ancestors and new cousins while on Tiree, or as we prepare to leave for Tiree. 3. Hi Gail, Hey, yeah it is evening over there already. Early afternoon here. Not sure if anyone can answer your question yet. Which kind of research are you wanting, genealogy records or finding ancestral crofts around the Island? For genealogy records, under normal circumstances, you would be referred to the Tiree Archive. But with so many of us going, and the Archive being a small space with a small (but VERY knowledgeable staff), I'm not sure what arrangements will be made about accessing their services during the Homecoming. There's some talk happening about a separate "genealogy room" being made available to us for the whole week where we can display our family trees and network with other folk and search paper transcriptions of old records. Even maybe broadband access, which would make for fast searches on the world-wide LDS site, as well as Keith Dash's Tiree genealogy site and the Mull and Islay genealogy sites. I think that sounds like an excellent way to enhance the limited time each person will get at the Archive, don't you? Anyone else going to Tiree, that has any other suggestions about encouraging genealogy discoveries while we're there? Or even before we get there? Post them here, and I'll make sure that Liz gets them. 3. Hi Babs, Nope, haven't been to Europe at all, far less isolated Tiree and Mull. Haven't even been to Bruce County, Ontario, where most of my Tiree folk pioneered in the 1850's. (Tenth of Kincardine McDougalls, Clarks, McLeans, etc.) Don't feel bad for not knowing that. I might talk like I know something about Tiree, but really all I know about is Tiree genealogy, i.e. I know how to research dead people on the Internet. However, I have become quite adept at that, so even my relatives, some of whom have already been to Tiree, are happy to let me be the keeper of the Family Tree, and invent their history for them. (and don't anyone try to tell me that genealogy is not an act of re-creating family history!) BUT, in defense of myself, I did put over 8,000 kms on my car (that's 5,000 miles to you) last summer visiting Tiree descendants in Western Canada, both alive and dead. Had a marvellous time, met so many interesting Tiree folk and visited many forgotten souls in the cemeteries. Hallelujah for stone markers, still standing after all these years. So, tell me that counts for something, eh? Oh, and if Glenda has her way, yes we will be on the May 20 ferry. Louise -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. 2. Scott Cameron
    3. Three Canadians from Guelph, Archie, Leanne and Scott decided to write a book about famous churches around the world. So they each bought a plane ticket and took a trip to see friends from Tiree now living throughout the world. On his first day they were inside a church taking photographs with Babs Humphry from Wisconsin when they noticed a golden telephone mounted on the wall with a sign that read "$10,000 per call". The Canadians, being intrigued, asked a priest who was strolling by what the telephone was used for. The priest replied to Archie that it was a direct line to heaven and that for $10,000 you could talk to God. The Canadians thanked the priest and went along his way. Next stop was in Austalia to get Ian Lamond to tour the Canadians around. There, at a very large cathedral, they saw the same golden telephone with the same sign under it. The Canuks wondered if this was the same kind of telephone they saw in Wisconsin and Leanne asked a nearby nun what its purpose was. She told him that it was a direct line to heaven and that for $10,000 she could talk to God. "O.K., thank you," said Leanne. The three then travelled to throughout other churches around the world. In every church theysaw the same golden telephone with the same "$10,000 per call" sign under it. The Canadians, upon leaving Louis MacDougall's Victoria Island croft where they saw the same telephone in a nearby church decided to travel to another isle, this time in Scotland to see if the Scots had the same phone. They arrived at the Isle of Tiree, Scotland, and again, in the first kirk they entered, there was Lachie Brown speaking on the same golden telephone, but this time the sign under it read "40 pence per call." Scott was surprised so he asked Lachie about the sign. "Lachie, we've travelled all over the world and we've seen this same golden telephone in many churches. I'm told that it is a direct line to Heaven, but in the price was $10,000 per call througout the world. Why is it so cheap here on the Isle of Tiree, Scotland?" Lachie smiled and answered, "You're on the Isle of Tiree, Scotland now, son - it's a local call". -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- www.geocities.com/tireehomecoming < A'Bhuain website May 22-26, 2006 Isle of Tiree, Scotland Gathering
