    3. Archie's "Behind the Scene" . . . Wonderful Archie! Thank you. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tiree Gathering Promotion: The materials are just great for handouts at the Ceilidh in Underwood, Ontario - Bruce County on May 8. Could I have a bulk order of 50 copies of each of the Tiree Gathering documents and I will pick up when ready. Tiree Gathering Promotion (Rogers Cable TV Community Promotion): Right on about the press and other media such as Jan Hamilton. We want the message out in the local area to get volunteers and lots of participants at the Gathering. Fundraising we can do in many ways and not just fundraising ceilidhs. Keep up the media contacts. Royal City Park is now in place for Saturday, July 24 for 12:30 to 5:00. The gazebo is booked; we will have 20 additional picnic tables in the Park put up Saturday morning and taken away after 5:00. There will be two portable toilets set up on the grounds. The Guelph Pipe Band will be at the Park at 12: 30 p.m. Thanks for the thoughts on Gene. She is coming along well. More anon. Yours aye, Archie (Gene is Archie's wonderful wife . . . just back from knee surgery) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, Scott www.tireegathering.com

    3. 86 days to go! Isle of Tiree Gathering Update - Friday, July 23, Saturday, July 24, Sunday, July 25, 2004 - Guelph, Ontario, Canada Greetings everyone....60 families, for a total of 100+ people, have registered as per 4.21.04 www.tireegathering.com . No doubt many more will arrive to register who are local to the area the weekend of for a forecasted total of 100+ to 200, maybe more. No doubt many citizens local to Guelph will be joining us for our festivities at the Gazebo in Royal City Park and at the ceilidhs on the Friday and Saturday night. However, we do not condone registering the weekend of or days before as this as this will only make extra unneeded work for the Guelph contingent of volunteers . . . Leanne Piper, Archie Mackinnon, Ross McLean and myself. If you have registered thank you, if you have not please do so today at www.tireegathering.com . In less than 90 days the Gathering will have come and gone! Don't miss out, you will be very disappointed. We are down to the final weeks where last minute important details must be finalized. Keep in mind that your volunteers are not availab! le for the entire 90 days to follow. We have other commitments re: family, work, extracurricular activities, vacations, etc. Please, to those of you who know you are coming, but have yet to register please do so today. Start packing now your Isle of Tiree mementoes, CDs, videos, photographs, family trees, books, etc., etc.. . . you will be provided with a table to showcase your display. Regardless as to how large or small it is very important. Get your act together too for the "Tiree Star Search" ceilidhs...music, story, poem, dance, etc. Check out www.tireegathering.com as to how your family tree can be an important part of the Gathering. TIREE INTERCONNECTIONS is a comprehensive database of Tiree family genealogies being compiled for the Gathering. The database is being built by Louise MacDougall and Russ McGillivray and is an ongoing worldwide linkage of Tiree families. If you would like to contribute your Tiree family genealogy to the database, contact Russ, as per the website link. . . . likewise for the bus as per below. As of writing we have 25 seats sold x $ 25.00 = $ 625.00 in revenue. This is not enough to cover the expense of the bus. If need be I will book a smaller 47 passenger bus, but based upon 25 passengers this will put the ticket price to $ 40.00 CDN vs. $ 25.00. The more we book the less expensive per person it will be. Furthermore the 56 passenger bus, so I understand, is more luxurious, not to take away from the high quality of the 47 passenger bus. Regardless, if we end up with only 25 passengers, $ 40.00 CDN is an excellent value. However, I know there are many out there that have yet to commit to a seat on the bus. Now is the time to speak up. Please let me know today. You can pay me the day of as I do not need to pay the bus company until the morning of. Based upon a 47 seat bus, we have 22 seats available. Based upon a 56 seat bus we have 32 seats available. Please . . .do not wait until the weekend of the Gathering t! o book a spot on the bus. Let me know today. Thank you. Whew, don't know about you, but I am exhausted . . . thank you everyone for your interest, contributions, kind words, etc., etc. . . .time to get on with the day . . .work, baseball practice starts tonight (David's baseball team I coach), my team starts in a few weeks, Cub camp this weekend, have to squeeze in Game 4 Leafs / Flyers this Friday night with a client ( I know, I know...it is a dirty job, but someone has to do it), runs, etc., etc. Cheers everyone. Keep in touch! Scott -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tiree Reunion Bus Seats are filling up FAST ! . . . . only 31 seats left. . . .let me know today. Cheers, Scott Don't delay....if the Gathering Bus is going to fly on the Sunday, July 25, 2004 to the "Bruce" I need to hear from you ASAP please. The bus holds 56. We have 25 signed up so far. I need 31 more to fill bus # 1. There are more buses available if need be. $ 25.00 CDN per person. Thank you, Scott www.tireegathering.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Several Gatherers have written to me pertaining to the possibility of chartering a bus for the day. Originally the plan was to carpool / convoy those attending the Gathering to the "Bruce". However, today I investigated the cost of chartering a motorcoach bus complete with air conditioning, washroom, PA system, entertainment facilities, driver, "Scotty the Tour Guide", etc.. Denny's Bus Lines http://www.dennysbuslines.ca/Denny1/Welcome_to_Dex.html can accommodate our Gathering with three sizes of buses 47, 55, 56 passenger. Denny's has three 56 passenger buses which are the most modern and state of the art in their fleet. Regardless of the size of bus(es) we charter, for $ 25.00 CDN per person everyone can travel for up! to 15 hours on the Sunday to and from the "Bruce" in comfort! I have yet to book the bus. I will only do this when I have enough passengers who will commit to traveling on the bus in order to cover the costs. If this is something that you are interes! ted in please confirm NOW with the total number of people traveling in your party. The day will include leaving Guelph in the morning and returning in the evening. Our time is for us to maximize so long as accomplished within 15 hours. The trip to the "Bruce" is about 2 hours, likewise for the return to Guelph. While traveling we can enjoy a trip through backroads of where our ancestors settled in the Bruce, visits to cemeteries, tour of the Bruce County Museum and Archives http://www.brucecounty.on.ca/museum/ in Southampton, Ontario http://www.sunsets.com/southampton/ , all along the beautiful sandy shores of Lake Huron which is rated as one to the top three sunset locations in the world. Time can be had for breaks, lunch and dinner, etc.. No doubt it will be a busy day, but most fun, relaxing and memorable. Please confirm today. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    3. Fellow genealogists, Have you ever used the Internet to learn about genealogy methods and resources? Taken a genealogy course online? Read some 'how to' articles? Then I would like to hear from you. I am an Australian Ph.D. student who is currently writing a book chapter for an academic Virtual Learning Environment publication - my chapter is about using the Internet for genealogical education. I would therefore love to hear from you, fellow genealogists, about any Internet-based content you've used for genealogy education. This includes online courses (free or fee), how-to's, articles/columns, newsgroups, BBS, chat, mailing lists, forums, or even personal web pages that publish learning material - anything online that helps you in learning the craft of genealogy. Your comments on the following is of utmost interest: What are your favourite learning outlets on the Internet? How often do you use them? Can or did you find what you needed online? What are your learning successes? What could be better? What do you look for in genealogical learning on the Internet? If you would like to participate, your comments are extremely welcome. Please send your comments to me directly at research@veale.com.au before Saturday 1st May 2004. I thank you in advance for your participation in this academic research. Kylie Veale P.S. After lengthy discussions involving people interested in promoting South African genealogy, ideas and plans came together to make it possible for the Genealogical Society of South Africa (GSSA) to open a virtual branch. This branch is known as eGSSA. For many years there have been people who, for various reasons, could not join a regular GSSA branch. Some of these reasons include living too far from a branch or living outside South Africa. These people still have a need to belong to a branch and to enjoy the benefits of GSSA membership, such as receiving GSSA's flagship quarterly journal, Familia. GSSA has been established to meet these needs. We plan for members of eGSSA to be able to hold virtual meetings in the future, either via streaming technology or in a chat room a-la-MSN. . It is also planned that eGSSA will make some of the GSSA products available electronically, and that some databases could be placed on the Internet for search purposes. This all depends on the availability of storage capacity. eGSSA's website is currently hosted at http://www.ggsa.info/eggsa The management eGSSA team is as follows: Branch Chairperson: Colin Pretorius (based in Australia) Secretary: Anne Lehmkuhl (based in Canada) Technical services: Richard Ball (based in the UK) Ex Officio: Martin Zöllner (based in South Africa) Regional representatives: Australia/NZ/Oceania/Asia: André van Rensburg (based in Australia) North & South America: Anne Lehmkuhl (based in Canada) Europe & the UK: Richard Ball (based in the UK) Africa & the Middle East: Daan Hamman (based in South Africa) The membership fees given below include an electronic copy of Familia, the Society's quarterly journal, as well as the virtual branch's own quarterly newsletter/journal, called genesis. Other benefits include discounts on some CD products. South Africa R115 ( R90 per annum GSSA fee & R25 eGSSA fee) . Rest of Africa and Middle East : US $ 22 North and South America US $22 United Kingdom GBP 11 Europe Euro 18 Aus/NZ/Oceania/Asia Aus $ 25 Payments for residents IN South Africa can be done via Absa, while payment for residents OUTSIDE South Africa will be done via Paypal (Australian and NZ prospective subscribers can contact Colin Pretorius for additional options) For those people who are not currently GSSA members, or cannot join a current branch, this is an ideal opportunity to become part of GSSA and to step into this exciting era. Regardless of the size of bus(es) we charter, for $ 25.00 CDN per person everyone can travel for up to 15 hours on the Sunday to and from the "Bruce" in comfort! I have yet to book the bus. I will only do this when I have enough passengers who will commit to traveling on the bus in order to cover the costs. If this is something that you are interest! ed in please confirm NOW with the total number of people traveling in your party.

    1. Fw: Generations CD
    2. Scott Cameron
    3. Greetings everyone...yep its me.....Scott and another email.......this time one on a real neat diddy.......read on.......check it out and order away if you wish........I suppose one thought would be to do a mass order and distribute at the Gathering......however, I am very busy as it is and as a result this would probably be best left for each to do on their own......however, if you are in the Guelph area I don't mind ordering on your behalf.......just let me know. Great CD based upon the few tracks I listened to on the "net". I will be ordering one for myself. Cheers, Scott -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Original Message ----- From: Ashley MacLean To: Scott Cameron Sent: Tuesday, April 13, 2004 8:44 PM Subject: Generations CD Hello Scott, Thank you for your interest in the Generations cd. If you would like some more information on it, hear some samples, or purchase a copy with a credit card, go to www.little-dreamer.net. If you would rather pay with a cheque or money order, the cost will be $28.00 Canadian ($20 for the CD, and $8 postage) made payable to Little Dreamer Productions. The postage goes down with multiple copies, so let me know before you pay if you would like more than one cd. That would be great if you could play it at the Gathering. It looks like it will be a great weekend. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it (Australia is just a little bit to far for a weekend away). I don't know if my Uncle Hugh Archie is planning to go. He is actually in Tiree now for a few weeks on holiday. I don't think he has an internet connection there, so probably hasn't read your email, but I'm sure he would be very interested to get in touch with you. Just read of your CD on the Tiree website. So, how do I get a copy of the CD sent to 6 McElderry Road Guelph, Ontario, Canada N1G 4K2. I would be happy to play it at the Gathering www.tireegathering.com and take orders for you. Better yet if you can make it to the Gathering! Photo of me on Bien Hough, Isle of Tiree. My gr. gr. grandparents Malcolm Cameron and Sarah McLean immigrated to Canada in 1851 with members of their family, marrying in Guelph on Nov. 28, 1854, thereafter settling in Bruce Twp., Bruce County, Ontario, Canada. By the way, great tracks on your CD. My sisters and I will be performing at the Gathering too....piano, guitar, fiddle, etc. Do you know Mary and Angus MacLean on Tiree? Angus had a brother named Hugh who passed away a few years ago. Mary is from Vancouver. No doubt we are probably all related re: McLean! Cheer, all the best, Scott Cameron - Guelph, Ontario, Canada ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ashley has a website 'Little Dreamer Productions' <www.little-dreamer.net> that provides more detail of what is on the CD. Also, I myself can be contacted at 2, Morven Road, Inverness, IV2 4BU, (Tel 01463 236253) or by e-mail at hugh.maclean@btinternet.com http://www.little-dreamer.net/ Hughie and May have been back to Tiree several times, the last time being in 1997.
