My great grandmother (Jessie ARMSTRONG) was born on the Ardkinglas Estate in approx 1826. She was christened on 17 June 1827, Canobie,Dumfries. The birth information came from her death certificate and the Christening from the LSD Site. Oral Family History says that she was related to the Campbell's and back to the Duke of Argyll, however I have not been able to establish this, but I did find a site on the Internet that said the ARDKINGLAS Estate was owned by the Campbell's and wonder if this is where the 'Myth???" arose. A cousin here in Australia has a linen tablecloth which was apparently a wedding present from the Campbell's when Jessie married George ANNAND in Largs, County Ayr on 20 August 1852 (I have the original certificate) It is also said that Lady Janet Campbell went to Greenock, Glasgow to farewell the couple when they sailed for Australia on 11 September 1852 aboard the 'Aberfoyle'.
