I am pleased to announce that the East Lothian Free Census project is ready to roll. This is part of the UK Free Census Project - an internet-based "free-to-view" database which will allow researchers to view details of UK Censuses between the years 1841 to 1891. I am county coordinator for East Lothian and we are starting with the 1841 census. I am appealing for volunteers to act as transcribers for all the East Lothian parishes. People with a personal interest in East Lothian would be particularly welcome. All you need to take part in this global on-line venture is a computer and access to a microfiche reader. We supply the fiche and the software. This is a chance for ordinary family historians to make a personal contribution to our great hobby. If you are interested in learning more please contact me Mary Hamilton at MAH.Rodney@xtra.co.nz An overview of the UK FreeCEN project can be found at http://freecen.rootsweb.com . An overview of the Scotland FreeCEN project can be found at http://www.speakeasy.org/~jgribble/scotland/scotland.html H.M.S.A. and the L.D.S. have blessed this project, but we do need your help. Thank you, Mary Hamilton East Lothian Coordinator.
