Wigtonshire is in South West Scotland the village of Port Patrick is only 12 miles by sea from Northern Ireland making it the closest part of Scotland to Ireland. It is not known now as Wigtonshire but comes under the regional title of Dumfries and Galloway the main town is Stranraer, which is a sea port for Northern Ireland.
