    1. [ARGYLL] Keils
    2. Roddy MacKenzie
    3. Keils is the name of a farm on the island of Jura. It is set back from the main road about a third of the way up small Isles bay. It consisted of several crofts and in my youth was still growing cereals as well as having cattle. Sadly with the passing recently of Archie Black (a relative of mine and the last native Gaelic speaker on the island) who had the main house in the settlement, I think almost all of the farming has ceased and many of the cottages are now holiday homes. Keils is on the road to Kilearnadil Cemetery where most of the south half of the island gets buried. It is also mentioned in the census records as quite a large community Roddy MacKenzie Hassall wrote: > Hi there > I have these places for baptisms and am unsure where in Jura or > Colonsay they could be.
