In Scottish Record Society Vol 91 there is the earliest census for Scotland. It is of the Argyll estate census ordered by John, 5th Duke of Argyll and the census was completed in August 1779. Apparently several different men were appointed to take the census. Therefore the information is not consistent from district to district. However, the information in several cases, is excellent. I have pulled out the McCallums listed in this census and will do a look up for McCallums only.
