Hi Listers I am looking for any information on the following Dunoon & Kilmun family: Duncan FERGUSON, "Ferryman" and wife Mary CAMERON children: Margaret Elizabeth both christened, 6 May 1827, Dunoon & Kilmun (source:IGI both parish records as well as 'patron sheets') The year and place agrees with later marriage and census data for Elizabeth. I obtained a copy of the GRO record for a Duncan Ferguson's 1870 Kilmun death, however it appears it may be the incorrect one as his wife is recorded as being Mary WHYTE. The possibility exists, though, that the Whyte marriage may have been a second marriage and this may be reinforced by the fact that I can find no other children attributed to the FERGUSON/CAMERON marriage but begining in the mid-1830s several children are born to the FERGUSON/WHYTE marriage. The 1881 census reveals several Mary's but I can't make a connection with them - it also tells me that there are many Fergusons in the area and several are associated with the ferry service. I don't have access to the 1861 or earlier census. The daughter of the above mentioned Elizabeth (Margaret Ferguson Blair Raeside), who was born in Kilmun but at the time a resident of Partick, died in 1907 while visiting Kilmun (Laggan Buie) so it seems likely there was still a fairly strong connection with the Ferguson family . I would truly appreciate any information about any generation of this family....and also cemetery location information in the area (which I hope to be visiting quite soon). Also can someone tell me if cemetery transcriptions can be found at the Mitchell Library and/or the Greenock library. Thanks kindly Helen
