    3. Dear Argyll List I am new to the List but live in Argyll. I am writing an up-dated (sponsored) history on South Knapdale with emphasis on Loch Caolisport - and the Castle Sween to Kilberry coastal communities. I am most interested to know of any research people would be willing to share on families there, particularly those who emigrated to Australia, North America or New Zealand, Rhodesia/Zimbabwe etc. But I am also interested to include any local families here in Argyll or Glasgow etc. whose families had connections with Loch Caolisport or lower Loch Sween and down to Kilberry or either of the Leargnahensions. I have used Somerled MacMillan's 'Families of Knapdale' and 'The MacMillans and Their Septs' and also 'North Knapdale in the 17th and 18th Centuries' by (Rev) Alexander Fraser BD. I also have the fundamental paper by David Sellar of Edinburgh University on the Families of Knapdale descended from the Irish prince Anrothan who came over to Argyll in about 1050 and was ancestor of the MacSweens, MacGilchrists, MacSorleys, MacLachlans and Lamonts. I have also been provided with the research of Heather McFarlane in the Yukon about Loch Caolisport families. Looking at the leading families - Anrothan kindred c. 1050-1262 Menteiths of Knapdale1262-1360 (died out reverted to crown) Crown overlordship 1360-1376 Lords of the Isles 1376-1475 (Earldom of Ross taken away) Crown overlordship 1475-1481 Lords of the Isles 1481-1493 (part of Knapdale re-granted, then forfeit) Crown overlordship 1493-1499 (Argyll made Bailie of royal lands) Earl of Argyll overlord 1502-etc. These have fair outlines researched and written about them. What is less easy to document is the life of the people they were responsible for and their descendants who made their own choices in life. Any thoughts, suggestions, advice or material would be appreciated.
