Hi everyone I wonder if anyone could give me any ideas on where to go next with my husbands LAMONT family We have John LAMONT who married Jessie IRELAND in logie-pert in 1857 (children : Jessie Lauder , elizabeth , John , alexander Gilmour , Mary Margaret , Adelaide and Amelia Jane) The 1881 census states his birthplace as kildavik , argyll and his age at 57.......this threw me off the scent for a while but eventually it came about that both the place and the date of birth were mistranscribed...............his birthplace was probably kildavaig in argyll and he was actually 51 in 1881 and not 57........ On the IGI there are several John LAMONTs, a few born in 1830........I have looked at them all, and their parents , and families to see if any one of them seems more likely than the other.........at the moment i am leaning towards his parents being Peter LAMONT and Elizabeth STEWART..........that is the only one i can find born in 1830 on the scotspeople website and therefore seems a bit more concrete..............but all the LAMONT familes i have found seem to have a lot of the same names in them so it is hard to tell........ Can the LDS libraries get PR's for scotland ?........i feel i might still be in the same quandry if i look at them???!!!....... Jill Find John LAMONT's death certificate by searching <scotlandspeople>. If he died in Scotland, he'll be there. The age will be a clue if your search gives multiple choices and, once you've chosen an entry from the index, you should know if you've got the right certificate because it will describe him as the husband (or widower) of Jessie IRELAND. His death certificate will give the names of both his parents.
