It is rather difficult to explain in words exactly where Kilmore and Kilbride. It is a country area and the modern town of Oban is situated in it. (Oban was a very small village until it began to develop as a port in the later 18th century.) You should be able to find Oban on any reasonably large map of Scotland. Another way of seeing the position of the parish on a very simple map is to do the following: Go to http://www.nls.uk/digitallibrary/map Click on Maps of Scotland Then click Geographic area Then click Scotland You will get a list of maps of Scotland Look for 1825 Arrowsmith, Aaron Eclesiastical Map of Scotland and click on it You will be asked the size you want and click on 'large' When the map appears click on the map itself to enlarge it until you can identify Argyll on the left hand side. Then click in Argyll until you can read the words Presbytery of Lorn Click somewhere near these words and the map will be large enough for you to read the name Kilmore. This gives you a location for the parish on a very simple map which has only the principal old churches. Once you have this you can look for a more detailed map of Argyll on the same website. I suggest the Langlands map which will show you at least some of the townships which lay around Kilmore and have names which you may recognise from the Old Parish Register. Frank Bigwood
