To Jim, You wrote .. <While tracing McKinven's in Campbeltown, I found that at the1851 census the family name was McKinnon, and that the family head Charles was born at Kellan Isle of Mull This lead my search to Mull where I found 2 siblings Flora & Donald and that their parents were Hector McKinnon and Mary McLauchlan I have been unable to find any records on either parent under the name McKinnon. However I have found a marriage between a Mary McLauchlan and a Hector McShirey that is in the correct location (Kellan) and at a year that fits the bill (1804)> ... I can't help you with your query about McSHIREY/McKINNON but I have a McLACHLAN/McKINNON connection around Lismore & Mull (esp Torosay) & Morvern in Argyllshire. My ancestor Dugald McLACHLAN married 3 times. 1. Mary McEACHERN early 1800s. 2. Peggy McKINNON 1812 Torosay MULL 3. Peggy McEACHERN 1819 Torosay MULL It is presumed that the first two wives died in childbirth or thereabouts. We do not know if the two McEACHERNs were sisters. Dugald McLACHLAN had a sister Mary born about 1785. If you think there is a connection I can fill in the scant material I have which is mainly on the McLACHLANs. Any information on the above would be very welcome. Anne Maye
