Hello list, This may be slightly off topic but I have received a lot of help from the various lists, so here goes. I have stumbled across a site which shows in map form and has a "free" search of the various properties/farms etc in Scotland and who currently owns them. All records are from official Govt sources. Argyll has 332 properties shown. The site is www.whoownsscotland.org.uk Apparently there is a book of same name published as well. We found the current owners of property where my ancestors worked. Check it out, Thanks, Keith Campbell Perth Western Australia
Dear Keith Thanks very much. I am sure many people will spend hours (just like me) checking out the "whoownsscotland" site. It has helped me see where my Cameron ancestors came from - Moy Crofts. I have been aware of the site for some time and have found that some of the entries are as much as 10 years out of date. Currently a lot of Estates in Scotland are changing owners. A number have been split, whilst other have been merged, since the 1800s. However, the site gives maps of the Estate marches (boundaries) at the last shown owner(s) so, if you know where your ancestors were in the 19th century, you can locate them on the "current" estates. Best Wishes Les
