Hi all Thanks to a suggestion from Lou in a message off line, I checked out a relative of the McPhails I've been looking for and I've found that they were in Glasgow in 1834, the date of birth in Glasgow of a 'new' sister I've just found for Donald McPhail. That suggests they moved to Glasgow between 1828 when Donald was born and 1834 when the 'new' sister was born. No need for anyone to check any Argyll censuses therefore! edward Limpsfield, Surrey
