Further to Heather Oldham's query : > I have just come across two towns/villages by the name of "Moy" in the > 1985 Bartholomew Road Atlas of Britain (in the Argyle area) > First question - What does Moy mean? I've managed to consult my gaelic "oracle" (in his 80's) who informs me that "Moy" comes from "Magh or Maigh" meaning meadow, plain or level country. Out of interest he also informs me that, as well as "Moy & Dalarossie" in Inverness-shire, there is another Parish of Moy ie "Dyke & Moy" in Elgin (or Morayshire) and at least one other Moy (place) in Nairne (or Nairnshire) on the Moray Firth. Best Wishes Les
