Hi Everyone I have just come across two towns/villages by the name of "Moy" in the 1985 Bartholomew Road Atlas of Britain (in the Argyle area) First question - What does Moy mean? Second question - If my Cameron's came from Moy, Kilmallie which is more likely - would it have been the Moy between Strone and Gairlochy, or from Moy, between Craigbeg and Moy Lodge on Loch Moy along Glen Spean? Does this second Moy, along Glen Spean, belong to a different clan area? Thank for any help in this matter. Kind regards Heather. NSW.

However, "Moid" is a "degree of greatness." "Moine" is peat or moss. Take your pick. Moy in Kilmallie (Argyll) is indeed the one between Strone and Gairlochy. The one between Craigbeg and Moy Lodge is, in the Parish of Kilmonivaig (Inverness-shire). Both are in Cameron country. Although there is another Moy (a Parish) east of Loch Ness which is MacKintosh (note the K) country. Best Wishes Les
