    1. [ARGYLL] McGregors in Argyll
    2. Hello, all!  I was on this list for a while early in my research; now that I know more, I've come back.  My name is Bettymae Ryland.  I live in Northern California.  I was born a McGregor, and am researching this family: John McGregor, b.circa 1762, married circa 1787 to Katherine Munroe son Gregor McGregor bap. 15 August 1788 in Kilchrenan and Dalavich, married Sarah McLachlan b. 1786 in Kilcalmonel and Kilberry, died 19 January 1864 in Inverary. Gregor and Sarah's children: John bap. 12 December, 1813 Duncan McGregor, bap.26 August 1815 in Inverary, d. 1 June 1901 in Glencoe, Ontario, Canada  (my gggrandfather) Peter McGregor b.7 February, 1818 Angus McGregor b. circa 1819 Their story, as far as we know it, is this:  sometime after Angus was conceived in 1818/1819, but before 1831, Gregor died, not from natural causes, perhaps an accident, perhaps foul play.  Sarah sent Duncan to live with her father, Duncan McLachlan in Lochgilphead. The two Duncans emmigrated to Canada in 1831. John may have been old enough to go out on his own, or he may have been sent to his McGregor relatives, who may have brought him to Canada.  Peter and Angus stayed with Sarah; she remarried, a Duncan McCorkindale. Angus married another Sarah McLachlanin 1865.  They had two children, Sarah, b.1866,d. 1958, and Peter, b.1872, d. 1947. I am hoping (1) that Sarah or Peter have a descendant out there who might see this and contact me. or (2) that someone knows the story of Gregor's death. Any help is much appreciated.  Good to meet you all in any case!  Sincerely, Bettymae
