    3. Hi Sandy & Lesley There seems to be an excess of Alexanders! Some info which might help separate the sheep from the goats (so to speak) is the Highland naming pattern. In my own case I have found Argyll McPhersons stuck fairly closely. 1st son named after paternal grandfather 1st dau after maternal grandmother 2nd son after maternal grandfather 2nd dau after paternal grandmother 3rd son after father 3rd daughter after mother Additional childrn free choice. As you can see, it can be possible (no gaurantee) to identify both sets of grandparents, assuming there were at least 2 sons & daughters. Hope this is helpful Rod Victoria, Australia ----- Original Message ----- From: "a.stevenson" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, November 25, 2006 10:26 AM Subject: Re: [ARGYLL] Name Change Query McILOHOIM - McILAHOIMBIE-McIHERVIEToLAMONT ? > Thank you for replying, I'll try Scotland's People as that's where I found > their names on Janet's wedding certificate. 3. Hi Rod, I'm an Alexandra from the Wagga area. My g.grandfather was Alexander Boyd and my father was David Alexander Wilson, taking both grandfather's first names. 3. Thanks Rod, my family do not appear to have strictly followed the naming pattern. Sarah and Archibald had 8 children - 7 sons and 1 daughter. We do know that the first child was named John. This was the name of the maternal grandfather. (As we do not know the paternal grandfather's name, it is possible that he was also named John, which would throw the thing out!!) But son #3 was Malcom, #4 was Alexander, # 5 Hugh, # 6 Archibald, after the father. I am beginning to think that my family don't WANT to be found!!! Regards Lesley
