Further to Lorna's Question > I need to know if anyone has heard of the following two places which relate to the marriage of Neil McKellar and Ann Sinclair Feb 3 1814 in Argyll. Neil's parish or place of residence is Durrain and Anne's is Auchennia (sp?) I've been having another think about Auchennia. I now think that it is probably Auchachenna [GB Grid Ref NN 025 215] on the west side of Loch Awe , near Kilchrenan and the border with 'Glenorchy & Inishail' Parish. Although this is on the other side of the loch to Durrain/Durran, and about 15 mls from it, there were plenty of ferries accross the loch and a number of ferries plying between the piers on the loch. Had a quick look at the 1841 Census for 'Kilchrenan & Dalavich' - the entry for one of several Durrain/Durran properties is : 'Kilchrenan & Dalavich' Psh 517 ED 13 pg 3/4 Line 25 MCKELLAR Niel M 65 Agricultural Labourer b Argyllshire Line 1 MCKELLAR Betty F 60 b Argyllshire Line 2 MCKELLAR Alexander M 25 Agricultural Labourer b Argyllshire Line 3 MCKELLAR Niel M 20 Shoemaker b Argyllshire Line 4 SINCLAIR Patrick M 24 Agricultural Labourer b Argyllshire Line 5 MCLOUD Murdoch M 24 Agricultural Labourer b Outside Census County However, there are no Sinclairs in Auchachenna at this time.
