Dear Ian, Would there be any mention of any McArthur/MacArthurs in "Inhabitants of the Argyll Estates"? I am specifically looking for the family of Peter W McArthur b:1747 Scotland d:Aug 1847 Bladen County,NC his father: Neill McArthur was b:Scotland emigrated to NC circa 1767,where he prospered as a merchant before the Rev War.He and Archibald (brother?) were Loyalists while son Peter W was a Patriot (DAR) My understanding is that they returned (1792-98) to Jura, where he and Archibald McArthur signed a Power of Attorney (1803) over to Neill's son, Alexander with specific instructions on the management/collection/disbursement of their "North American" properties,plantations,farms,livestock,etc His wife Maysie and daughter,Jessie Neill (or Nelle)MacArthur are listed as heirs,as is Peter W who had remained here in Cumberland County,NC Neill's place of residence at the time of signing was Argyll, Ardmenish, Jura Island according to the legal papers I recently received from my cousin I am probably ' tilting at windmills ' but I thought maybe, just maybe............ you might find a 'lil tidbit' that could make a new chink in our brickwall<smile> Many thanks to you,Ian, for your kindness in the sharing of your resource.
